I'm test driving this Evo Saturday. It's a 2005 Evo8 with 50,800 miles on it for 21995. My dad know the car dealer so he'll make sure I don't get taken advantage of. I heard bad things about the tranny/clutch going out. When I test drive it what should I be looking for?

 

Think about having a pre-purchase inspection done on the car. Probably tough to find a shop that knows evo's other than the dealer and having that dealer's techs do the inspection might make you wonder if they give a truthful answer. This could be the best 150-200 dollars you spend on a car.

 

Search and ye shall find.
But to give you a jump start, the clutch should feel solid. You'll know if it's slipping. The rpms will go up but you won't go forward any faster. As far as the transmission, people have had problems with the 5th gear and the input shaft vibrating (this happens while driving in 5th gear) THis then throws an ECU trouble code (i believe it's P0300). Try searching that and you'll come up with lots of info. Also the center diff will go bad and makes a high pitched whine. Search that and again you'll get more info. Hope that helps. Good luck.

 

Well, so God hates me. The car I was going to test drive Saturday was sold Thursday evening. They just didn't take it off autotrader yet. Come to think of it, it's still there, on autotrader. Well my search continues. Wish me luck.
