2006 IX RS... could some peeps give me a short list of specific upgrades that are the best bang for the buck??

You're in luck in GA with it comes to tuners. Check out Dyno4mance. They are who I will be taking my baby to soon.
TBE = Turbo Back Exhaust. Basically all the pieces from the 02 housing ---> Muffler.

It is in Calhoun. Take I-75N and it is just a bit past Cartersville. There are a handful of other tuners if you'd like their names.
