Mods to start with and will extend the life of my new evo
Yo, I just got my evo ix last week, completely stock. I dont know a damn thing about evo mods, so what mods do you guys think i should start with? Im more concerned with engine life and care, so are there any mods that will ensure longer life to the car rather than trying to make it the fastest evo (not just yet). Thanks in advance for the suggestions
well not to flame ya, but you should make the search button a part of your life.....
moving on, i would start with a TBE and at the minimum drop in filter, MBC, LICP....need to think about what your goals are. The 4G63 has been around a very very long time, so its gonna last, you need not worry about that UNLEES YOU beat on it too much. It will hold all the mods you can throw at it, so like I said, what are your goals????

+2 on clutch. ACT or Exedy Twin.
But chances are, bolt-on mods are more exciting than a brand new clutch. If I were you, just learn to drive your car until you know EXACTLY how she reacts 99% of the time. I drove almost 30K before I even thought about doing my first mod.
Again: TBE, MBC, Tune are a killer combo. 300-330 WHP on a dyno depending on which one. Should run mid 12s. Add an open element intake and a fuel pump if you like, but neither are really needed at that level of power. PM me if you have any questions. Everyone else will tell you to just search.
[In case you aren't aware of lingo since you said you're new to the whole thing...]
TBE = Turbo Back Exhaust (Canister, mid-pipe, cat/test pipe, downpipe: All parts from your muffler --> connection to your O2 housing)
CBE = Cat Back Exhaust (Canister and midpipe. Connects to your cat. Hence the name.)
MBC = Manual Boost Controller

Turbo back exhaust
quality air intake OR quality drop in air filter
a computer reflash
that should get you started...

Clutch, Catch can,Turbo Timer, drop in filter, MBC,TBE, 255 walbro, and a GOOD DYNO TUNE!!! Don't touch that boost till you do this!
Also, there is no replacement for on time or early oil changes.
And then there is the driver mod... Learn to drive, shift and launch the correct way.

I knew one guy who ran what I call a "stealth setup." It was an intake, MBC, and a tune. Huge gains for the $$$ and very quiet because stock exhaust is still used. If you ever needed warranty work: simply unhook MBC and reconnect stock boost solenoid.
I have always liked those boost actuated exhaust cutout valves. Pretty much a wastegate on a butterfly plate that opens your exhaust at 10psi or so. Those are around 200 bucks or so I think. You could get it welded into your stock DP for like 50 bucks at a muffler shop. Drop in Filter/MBC a boost gauge and a tune. That would get you some quick gains for cheap.
+1 I drove mine for a while as well, get to know the car and see what she can do stock. The car is easy to drive and will make you feel like you can do anything, then all of the sudden it will supprise you.
The clutch is #1, #2 welbro 255lph fuel pump, you will need both when you start to mod. Good luck and enjoy.
