Question Do I Need Piping?!

I've looked everywhere for answers - and they are nowhere to be found, so - people please help me!

I ordered APEX'i N1 off of ebay - its just the muffler and a silencer - 2.5" inlet , 4" tip - and I was wondering if I need/should get new piping or whatever. I want a low deep sound - like every other person does - should I do something with the cat conv. ? I want to know a little bit of what I'm talking about so I don't go to a local shop and get ripped off - ya know?! Ideas, insight, prices$$ - anything would help me - haha! Im stressin'!!

the N1 is inherently just loud. i think its gonna be hard to make it not ricey. if going catback, fit a resonator to keep the high pitch down.

All straight through mufflers are inherently loud. Just the way it goes since they don't baffle per se, just absorb vibration through whatever means. My HKS Hi-Power, which uses glass wool, a nickel mesh and stainless wool to dampen the noise, started off as insanely obnoxious but has mellowed for the most part. I run straight 2.5" piping from the cat back but I find it perfectly liveable. Thank God for 1999 cc's of displacement.

Increasing the exhaust piping will make the tone deeper. Getting rid of the 2nd cat will make the tone higher. And for pricing, you should be able to score 2.5" piping in the $100-$200 range depending on what type of metal you want (aluminized<stainless) and what kind of bending (press/crush<mandrel).
