Stock Wastegate Died
Stock Wastegate Died
So I'm almost certain my stock wastegate is dead. Occasionally, the turbo feels like it is simply dumping right out the exhaust instead of boosting and it feels like I'm standing still. There is always a slight clicking / ticking noise in turbo range. I took it to the shop to get the noise checked out, and they said it was the wastegate. My question is...
What are my options? I'm running a stock turbo so I know that tial wastegate isn't an option. Do I have any other options than a stock wastegate?

Neither Forge, nor Forced Performance manufactures a WG puck, a.k.a., "flapper valve" for our 16G turbos as far as I know.
There have been a couple of threads on here recently about flapper valves coming loose from the pivot shaft on 16G's. So, it does happen. If it was me I'd first remove the turbine housing and check out whether or not this is the case.

The flapper valve[integral wastegate puck(s)], is spot welded onto the WG pivot arm and is located inside the turbine housing. In some cases the spot weld has failed and you should find the flapper valve downstream in your catalytic covertor, if you have one.
It might be easier to remove the O2 housing which should give you a clear view(I think).
I've only read about this happening twice on here. So, it is not a common occurence by any means. You just may have a problem of insufficient wastegate preload. Try increasing wastegate preload 1st by shortening the actuator rod by turning it clockwise about 4 turns.

i can add one more to the bad wastegate issue. i had my green flapper go on me a couple weeks ago. from what i've seen it looks like the dual flappers are the ones going bad.
like sparky posted, looks like the weld lets go and then you(at least i did) hear a rattle coming from the cat. that's the pieces bouncing around in there
