Question Stock Bottom End

How much will the stock bottom end take for rpm's. I was thinking of getting the Tomei 280's or the 270's but i dont know how far i can rev the engine safely. The JUN's arent a bad idea either.

Those stock rod bolts aren't the strongest things in the world probably around 8k rpm they are going to be near their limit and then stretch.

search is your best friend.

The stock rod bolts like previously stated arent the best for higher rpm 8k+. I was lucky that I never broke one
why are you looking at these agressive cams? are you going big turbo?
upgraded valvetrain?
also that high of lift might lead to valve to piston contact ( )

My redline was 8103 rpm on my old evo. Stock head w/ comp 280+ cams and arp headstuds. Stock block.

So with stronger rod bolts i can run the tomei 280's or the jun 272's with no problem on streetability. I cant seem to find the tomei valve spring retainers or are the valve spring sheets the same thing?

The only things in my motor are cosy 272's and I rev out every gear to 8k and 4th to 8,500 at the track and have never had any problems. Oh and I'm on about 30#'s of boost.

So is there any power difference between the tomei's and jun's. The reason im asking is because the tomei's have a bigger lift than the jun's. The 280's are 11.80 and the Jun 272's are 10.80.

What you must realize is bigger is not always better.

The larger the lift and duration of a cam the further to the right your putting the power band. Depending on your power goals you are going to want to decide on a cam that is suitable for those needs.

For example GSC S1 cams have a 262 duration and fairly amount lift producing lots of mid range and decent top end making the effective range around 3k-7.5k. The Jun 272's high high lift and higher duration putting their effect rev ranges somewhere around 4.5k-9k rpm. You make them even bigger and just moving the peaks further down the right of the dynograph..

The closest thing to a free lunch with cams are the GSC S1 specs or some other similar cam. Anything larger is going to compromise some low end torque and possibly even spool.

So what is the lift on the comp 280 cams? If the lift is the same on the jun 272's or the Tomei's im gonna go with them and get stronger rod bolts. Supposedly thats all i have to do to rev to 8-8.5k. Unless someone else has something to say thats all i have received for feedback.

I never had any problems with taking it that hight and the car had 57000 on it before it got hit by a drunk driver while it was parked.

So what do you guys think the jun's or the tomei's. Im thinking of going with the jun's because of they have retainers. But what are valve retainers sheets?

The Buschur Racing cams are making the best power for the price! JUN Cams are insanely expensive and hard to get! The Buschur cams have been on alot of 500-600 whp Pump gas cars and the guys at Buschur are great! heres the link to them:

I frankly could care less about price. Im not going to go with comp, crower,BC,HKS, or any other cam company except JUN and Tomei. Bushur is a good company but im going to go with a company that has more respect and more RND. External wise on the engine bushur isnt a bad company.
