Hey Everyone. Pics of the car are now up!

Hey everybody, what's up? I'm new here and just wanted to say hey. I drive an 06 STI and love it, and my roommate drives an 05 MR. I have used IWSTI a lot, and just wanted to see what's going on in the Evo world. I jokingly say things about Evos, as do you all about subys. Bottom line is, there both awesome, fun to drive, and fast, so I don't wanna be flamed for driving my car! Anyway, I'm either going to continue to mod the STI, or if it's cheaper perhaps I'll play around with the idea of trading or selling for a Mitsu. Currently I am at 306whp and 327wtq on my set up with the stock turbo and a turbo back and love it. But, as the mods increase, so do prices, and let's face it...the 4g63 has been around way longer than the ej25. The only real concern I have that has continually kept me away from an Evo in the first place is the build quality of the clutch and tranny. I have heard stories, and most of which are not so good. In the long run, a new transmission and clutch can add up ya know. I do think the suby's motor is way stronger than people give it credit for, but it's still relatively new compared to something that's been used in the first gen eclipses. It's practically common sense though that the mitsu block is more stout...it's made out of freakin iron. For example, 500whp on stock blocks on both of these cars is achievable, but like everyone knows the longevity of the car depends on the tune and the driver's right foot. But, cams on evos make a big difference, and the ability to work on the mitsu motor more easily is what kind of entices me about the car so far. We'll see where my mind ends up after I do a lot of reading and info from all you Evo people. Thanks guys, and once again hey to everyone!

The tranny on the Evo is a bit weaker than the STI's but it is still very stout. Most people tend to blow up the transfer cases when producing wheel hop in the front wheels on very hard acceleration. If your going to be launching the crap out of the car I do suggest upgrading this part from to handle the increased punishment.

The Stock Evo clutch can take more than people give it credit for but its no where near the potential of the engine. I'd say when you get to 400whp your going to cook the stock clutch fast! I'm pretty sure a clutch change on both these cars is a PIA so do it right and do it once

Welcome here. I have a lot of respect for STI's and I was originally going to buy a silver '07. However the dealer was a jerk and wouldn't give me any deal so I ended up at the Mitsubishi dealer and as soon as I test drove the Evo, well that was that. Both an STI and an Evo have tough well made drivetrains, but both have faults. The EJ25 is a semi open deck block and isn't as strong as the 4G63 and the Evo's drivetrain is a bit weaker than the STI's. I agree that the Evo is way easier to mod and it responds very well to modding also. Whatever you decide to do both of these cars are cool and in my opinion you can't go wrong with either. Sure there are the diehard fans that love one and hate the other but I like both of them. I'd be happy to pick up an STI sometime later on and park it right next to my Evo.

I look more and more into the power of these cars and it still perplexes me. Evos on pump gas with bad *** tunes from Buschur lay down more whp than Stis do with meth injection. Though, overall, the pump gas tunes by Buschur on evos haven't been rivaled by anybody, so maybe it's just those guys because I have always heard great things. I can definitely achieve 400whp easily in my suby, but an evo is hardly sweating at 400whp. I have been reading a new pump gas tune thread here and this guy laid down like 545 whp! I think some of the highest pump tunes on stis I have seen are around 430-440 ish. The torque curves in these cars are definitely different as well, since it's often common for an sti to lay down more tq than hp.

I think one of the reasons you see the subie's start to struggle beyond the 400whp range is the engine layout. The large gap between the two intake ports makes the intake runners super long which makes for great low end torque but at higher flows may be impeding its potential. Also I don't remember the STI's having a large chamber to house pressurize air for the intake to draw from letting larger volumes of air to suddenly be sucked in while the chamber is filled.

Just my opinion though

Ok guys, here are the pictures. I washed and waxed the car and used Klasse for the both wax and sealant glaze a few weeks ago. The day after I did it rained for like three days straight, and proved how well this stuff works! Unfortunately, it's not the cleanest in this picture, and I had to rinse a lot of pollen off since it sits outside every night. Anyway, here they are. Enjoy!

I like how you scribbled out your plates in one photo and not the next.
