introducing myself

been lurking around these forums for awhile. i drive a used 06 RS as of 2 months ago. looks like the previous owner beat on it pretty good what with the transfer case already blown, clutch just went, and now i have a noisy lifter.

was gonna do an oil change today when i pulled the dipstick and found the oil to be completely black and over filled. thought i would ask you guys a question on this considering it's still under the dealerships' 60 warranty (they had the car for a month for the transfer case...).

what would make my oil smell like gasoline? the only thing i can think of is somehow gas is being pumped into the crank case maybe? i'm dropping the car off in a couple days to have the oil changed by a mitsu dealership before i bring it back to the used car dealership for the noisy lifter. i searched far and wide and couldn't find an oil filter on the car anywhere. it could be because im limited to a couple jack stands and a jack at the moment.

this car is supposedly certified pre-owned, but as far as i know that just means they look for visible problems as well as noises.

any and all help is appreciated

Man sounds like the previous owner really wasn't nice to yours. I'd have to say maybe a leaky injector or if for some reason fuel pressure regulator is bad. It could be pumping way too much fuel in and its getting past the rings. The oil change is simple on an Evo and way cheaper to do yourself than the dealer. The oil filter sits right next to the pan where the oil drain plug is. Probably easiest car I've ever changed oil on. I didn't even have to jack it up. Good luck on the other issues.

yeah i found the filter and the drain plug. i might do it myself today after i get off work. i don't trust this used car dealership one bit. if i bring it back to them they're probably just gonna put fresh oil in it to get rid of the gas smell and not even bother checking for the problem. the oil change will most likely hide the lifter noise for the rest of the warranty as well. i'm pretty much stuck with this now.

looks like i'm gonna have to really dig into this car.

i'll be posting on these forums a lot more frequently what with all the work i'm probably gonna be putting into it. it'd be nice if i could find a service manual for this thing but i'll be able to make due i guess. i know a couple well respected guys around here that deal specifically with evo and sti. maybe i'll hit them up for some help too.
