sorry for the noob question, im prepered to get flamed but go easy.. lol. so will a down pipe make my exhaust louder? i was thinking of the hks DP cause they say that the 3 inch DP's make better top end and the hks is better in the low rpm's, but then i mite want that higher top end. so maybe ill get a 3 inch, so i have 3 questions

Will i still pass smog in cali?

will the invidia DP on lancershop.com bolt up to the stock cat, or is there an ams DP that will bolt up to the stock cat. and where would i look

 

When i installed my downpipe by itself mind you no change to cat or catback it was NOT louder. With catback and no cat well... thats a different story.

Having a DP isn't technically legal in CA but practically no one other than picky shops will know

The "Best" exhaust which would mean the one that would make the most power would be a dump right to the ground after the turbo or "no exhaust at all" Turbo's by nature are a restriction in the exhaust stream so smaller exhaust sizes don't provide the scavenging effects like you would see in a NA car. Staying in the realm of reasonable then the best exhaust for you is something that will fly under local authorities but still make a lot of power like downpipes with cutouts or high flowing exhausts with good muffling.

 

IF you want to make it louder
you need to change cat to testpipe.

i dont want louder, i was just asking if a downpipe would make it louder. how much louder whould it make my exhaust? well i have a hks hi power exhaust, and i was thinking of getting the hks carbon ti, now from what i hear that exhaust is louder then the one i have already, so i was thinking of just getting a DP or getting the new exhaust and getting a DP. but i want to hear the carbon ti before i buy it thinking that ima buy a DP to go with it.

 

yes, a downpipe will make your exhaust louder, not as much as a cat back, but it will get louder.

 

so how loud is the hks carbon ti exhaust? and how loud will it be after a 3" DP is installed
