Tough decision...
Tough decision...
Hello everyone,
Let me start off by saying I'm 20 years old and in love with the Evo. Unfortunately, since I've been working on getting my AAS in information systems/networking, I haven't really been able to afford a car like that. However, this summer I'll be working full time, making a pretty decent amount of money, and will likely keep the full time status even into the fall semester. Last year, I nearly bought a locally owned 2003 Evo VIII with 29K on the odo for $21,500. However, I figured with all the work I'd have to do to keep up on payments, it wouldn't be very responsible of me especially with school.
Here comes the fun part.
The car is STILL owned by the same guy, he wants to sell it because his wife can't fit a 3rd car seat in it, and they just had their 3rd child.
Since apparently nobody else was as interested as I, his price has now lowered to $17,800. What's better, it's on consignment at a dealership and the dealer said he would take trades toward the vehicle. It should be mentioned that the car WAS in a front end collision that required repairs to the passenger front fender, hood, and passenger-side headlight, but the fellow who owns it now owns and operates a body shop in town and did all the repairs himself, and the car looks beautiful.
So...what do you think? I REALLY want the car...but it does seem like a lot of money to be spending right now. I figured that I *CAN* afford it, but whether or not I *SHOULD* has yet to be determined.

It's a big risk. Just need to lay everything financially wise that you pay and really make sure you can afford it. Try to factor in possible extra expensives that can arise and make sure you'll still have wiggle room to get by.
Also I know you really WANT it and there is the urge to jump on it becuase the price is good, but try and look at it from a 3rd person perspective so you dont make a mistake and end up with an impulse buy that you find out you really cant afford.
Hard to tell from me, but if you can drop the price more with a nice trade in, and are comfortable from a 3rd person prospective for purchasing it, go for it.

Its defineltely risky. Does the car have a salvage title? If it does I would keep looking at other options. If it doesn't then look into it more, and maybe drive it if you can to really see if its a car you want.
