Question ECU piggyback? Safe or just junk?

Allright, I am on Ebay looking for Lancer stuff and I see these $40-$60 ECU piggybacks that promise 10-20 more HP?! Do they work, or should I just shell out for an intake? I have a Lancer OZ auto and would like to add a little HP quick and easy...anyone have some advice?

Inquire from a real tuner, not some dude on E-bay. Unless you don't care much about your car that is...

My understanding is that a piggy-back does almost the same thing as a reflash or chipping. But this thing you're looking at on ebay is probably nothing more than a resistor with a pretty box around it. Like Chris said, if you're gonna play with your car electronically or internallu, ask a real tuner.

Urban....That's what I figured the piggy-backs are, just resistors in a box...Does anyone have an ECU available for the Lancer? All I see is the ones for the EVO...

its just a small resistor that people are selling for 5 bucks. you hook it up to your ecu and it is supposed to regulate air anf fuel to make your car go faster, but i wouldn't put a $15k car in the hands of some piece of crap ebay thing that may not work. People on ebay dont care what it does to your after when they arent in the picture anymore so be careful. its just like buying carbon fiber on ebay.

Road///Race Motorsports has an ecu available for the Lancer (turbo or naturally aspirated) in manual transmission. They are currently working on one for automatic, and soon to follow one for automatic turbo. I plan on getting mine this week, so I will be posting some comments, although I have already test driven a car with is and am already very impressed.

AEM EMS, Haltech...or pretty much any universal standalone...just don't expect it to be a picnic to tune a standalone.
