Buying an Evo

Well Iv been a member for a long time, though I dont post much I mostly lurked around tryign to stay informed. I was deployed for a year and wanted to buy an X when I got back. The MR wasnt out yet so me being impatient bought a new 07 VW GTI. Its got some nice kick but Iv decided I want to buy an Evo now.

But instead of the new X I want one with a 4g63. As I owned a 94 Talon TSi and dispite al lthe rebuilding I had to do to it I fell in love with it. My question is what year is the best Evo to buy?

Thanks for the insight and its nice to be back amoust the Mitsubishi faithful.

Get a IX. 06'. If you get an VIII get an 05

The IX has mivec and the turbo is a little better than the 05'.

I'd say 2006 is the best year. It has the MIVEC, the best turbo, and IMO looks the best.

I was waiting for the X then in October 07 I read Motortrend and C&D's tests both had it slower then the IX, and although it did better on the Skid pad they said it lost the wire tight steering feel. I immediately picked up my ix mr with 4K miles. I love it. Although only rated at 10 more hp Sport compact car magazine said their ix pulled 265 WHP stock their 05 project car pulled 230 WHP stock.

Yea, go with a 06 IX or an 05 VIII. If bolt on horsepower differences isnt that important, you can save some coin with the VIII, other than the Mivec and a slightly different turbo the 05 VIII and 06 IX are mechanically the same.

Well bolt on is pretty important. I got my GTI up to Stage II. Its respectable at 260whp right now but its not AWD and playign with my Subie and Evo friends my *** gets too loose at high speeds lol.

Plus Iv wanted an Evo since as long as I can remember. The 05s seem to be on average significantly cheaper then the 06's though.

Like a few other people have said, go with a 06 IX, or 05 VIII. Dont forget the small difference in gear ratios between the IX, and VIII. In particular 4th gear.
