From what I've observed.. not personally experienced...

You can destroy the transfer case and or transmission by popping the clutch at too high of an RPM (like 6000 RPMs) instead of slipping it as one should. Slip it too much and you burn out the clutch. Those are probably the most common issues related to abuse.

Everything else is common to any other car. Basic maintenance and proper driving technique and you'll be fine as just about any other car.

47,000 miles and the clock and still running like a champ!

If the car is well taken care of and not drivin hard on a Daily basis, you shouldnt have to many problems. But, once you start to launch it and beat the hell out of it, say bye bye to your t case.

T-case and trans problems if you don't know how to drive the car and beat the hell outta it. I have numerous launches and a few runs at the track and mine are still working perfectly. The stock clutch is another weak point. They don't last very long.

Driveline is what most people find a way to destroy.. motor is usually solid on almost every evo i have come across.. Just compression test and leakdown test before you buy if your skeptical..

That's not just an Evo problem... When I drove an old Mustang I was always catching crap from the idiots of the import group (usually hatchback Civics) and some GM guys. Now that I drive an Evo I'm catching crap from the domestic guys. Plus I have to endure the gas station conversations with the guy that wants to tell me all about his 18 year old P.O.S. Acura!

Its not a perfect world and I agree with you. I have owned both cars in the past and they cant get along. The way I look at it , any fast car that someone has put their time and effort into it, deserves respect.

The cars are built fantastic. The most common problem by far is the stock clutch. Some getting less then 10k up to some that drive the car normal and proper to 100k+. For me the biggest problem is the addiction to feeling the turbo rush. It is impossible to drive an evo like a yaris to try and get good mpg. The evo will rewire the your brain for more and max boost often.
