Question - Help to prevent from getting scammed on a cheap EVO

Hey all,

I've been perusing the forums, stickies and posts. I'm interested in a 2004-2006 Lancer EVO and while doing a search I came across a 2006 MR with low miles for what I'll describe as insanely cheap. I'm pursuing the car in an effort to learn more but I'm leery of being scammed into something that's a POS.

Through my reading I've noted a lot of things to look at for Evos.

- mods (have any been done) - look at exhaust, intake, near turbo housing for modded heat shields, look on the firewall for un-necessary holes drilled in it for meth / NOS installations.
- driving - loud noises, alignment issues, tire wear, brake issues, shifting issues,
- wheels - look for curb rash, flaking and/or other issues
- paint - look around the front bumper, lower front & rear fenders for chips in paint. Check panel fit-up between all of the panels for large gaps that might indicate a replacement part / wreck.
- items in car- ensure wipers, air, cruise, windows, lights, etc work as intended
- carfax - do a report after getting the VIN

Any other ideas on what to look at would be helpful. I've created a spreadsheet / checklist so I don't forget something while looking at it. Plus that way I'll have notes to compare to other vehicles. Any other thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Sounds like you've got it pretty much covered. You might even ask why it's so cheap.

1. Don't buy a cheap evo. It has a real potential of ultimately costing you more than a good car in the long run.

2. Get a PPI from an Evo-specific shop, only.

Get it inspected by a trained professional before buying. You never know what could be hiding in a cheap car.

Yeah sorry for no responses.

I'd have it inspected at a local mitsu dealer. Definately would want a compression test done, etc.

Any idea how long it takes to do a service check of diffs, engine, compression etc?
