Smile Do I Need A Boost Gauge?

I'm fixing to get my car tuned and I'll be getting the Hallman Pro MBC installed at the same time. I heard that my tuner will use his wideband to set the boost in case I don't have a boost gauge. I have read countless threads that say that it is impossible to do without a boost gauge if I'm going to install the MBC. Even if I'm not going to do much more mods with my car and even if my tuner is going to set the boost with his wideband, do still I need a boost guage?

Find a new tuner just for that statement...

yeah what he said...def. go to a different tuner...

get a boost gauge...it looks good...and its functional...you dont have to go all out and get some jdm bling gauges...just go with a simple autometer and a mounting pod for your steering column...total of about 70bucks...depending where you buy it from...

let us know what you decide to do...that way we can flame you for it...lol...i kidd...good luck!

Smile Huh?

I don't understand though...The tuner works on so many evo's and he's a a full-time engineer. His own evo makes about 500whp. He is very credible and is well-known in the area where I live. Could you explain your opinion please? Thanks.

Wideband is for A/F ratio

Boost gauge is for BOOST

Get a boost gauge

Don't you have a factory boost gauge in your MR?

"Setting boost with a wideband" is the stupidest thing I've read on this forum in a while. And believe me, I read stupid crap here every day.

A wideband sensor is a digital display of your Air Fuel Ratio. 14.7 is ideal for cruising. 11's ideal for under boost conditions. Please tell me HOW the hell this "well known tuner" is planning to set boost using a wideband cuz I could have saved myself a ton of money not buying a boost gauge. Simply put, you can't...

Simply, I could unplug my wastegate and run holy crap boost in excess of 30psi and set my AFR's to 11.5. Does this mean the engine is safe? Hell no...

Calm down. I think he misunderstood the Tuner.

Smile correction maybe?

If I made a mistake, please don't get upset guys...But it specificly states on my paper that he will use the manifold pressure sensor with his wideband system in case I don't have a boost gauge. Does that clear any misunderstanding from my behalf guys? Thanks.

definetly get a boost gauge...if you have an MBC and no boost gauge how will you know how much you are boosting? boost pressure is dependent on air temps...air pressure...humidity...and probably a ton of other stuff...you could end up boosting more than your car can handle and hurt something...so be safe and get a boost gauge.

Ahhh, he's going to use the MAP sensor in CONJUNCTION with the wideband. Makes more sense...

...So my tuner knows what he's doing and I may not need the boost gauge? Would his installation & tuning process prevent me from needing the gauge or do I absolutely need one to be safe and on the very right track?

We all would recommend you have a boost gauge...

However, depending on WHICH MAP sensor he is planning on using (1 bar USDM (14.5psi) or 3 bar JDM 43.5psi), this is a good way to tune. I use the JDM MAP sensor to tune mine. I am sure your tuner is compentent enough in changing the xml coding to reflect the JDM MAP sensor in your ECU so he can tune you this way. It's all good...

Everyone recommends that I get a boost gauge...hmmm..man!?? The way the tuner states it is confusing if I'm swaying away from getting the gauge. There's a real nice digital turbo boost guage for sale on lancershop.com and the price is about $198.00....What do ya'll think?

You said have a factory boost guage but there not accurate do to electric response you'll need to buy a mechincal just go with the autometer there cheap, accurate and match the factory color cluster don't spend your money on defi there off by 1to2psi.
