exhaust question

ok im new to the evo scene and I never really messed with any cars 96+ post obd1 so here is my question.

If I were to install my megan 3" downpipe w/ o2 sensor and get custom straight pipe from the DP, will it throw any engine codes and have my check engine light come on.

Also if you guys could tell me the cons of doing this instead of getting a regular catback system other than not passing smog thanks.

Smile Good Question.

I just got may turboback exhaust installed yesterday and the service engine light is already on and has stayed on ever since. I talked to my tuner and he said the check engine light problem is something a lot of Evo owners have to live with. I may or may not pass the smog test...But as of right now, the sound and performance is worth it to me.

you shouldn't have any problems doing that...i had a DC DP with cat delete and a custom straight pipe with an RMR muffler and the car was fine...but it was pretty loud though.

A good way to get rid of the check engine light is to use a cel mechenical fix spark plug modified that space's out the o2 sensor thinking it has a cat they sell them on ebay for around 10 dollars

There is a re-flash for your ecu that eliminates the rear o2 sensor throwing a code. i have mine flashed and have no cel. pass inspections just fine

Save yourself a few dollars and go down to your local AutoZone, or box store that sells auto parts, they will have the "Spark plug anit foulers"...just put them into the O2 Bung to extend it out a little bit, that way your O2 sensor is not all the way in the exhaust stream. Simple easy cheap fix, some test pipes will come with an extended o2 bung.
