Evo VIII or IX? Ye or Ne

So I'm a new member to the site and hopefully i can get some tips or help with this new purchase. I'm looking for a used Evo VIII or IX with low miles for a good price, I'm selling my 350z, cant drive it in the winter and the summer i have my streetbike so it's pointless to own. But i was looking around and found a 2005 White EVO GSR 38,000 miles with minor scratches and such for 20,000$. I Figured i'd ask people on here before i purchased it if that was a decent deal or not, I've heard the Evo IXs are much better with a bigger turbo and newer parts, but i wasn't too sure, any advice would be great. I'm located in RI(Northeast)

if you are going to mod slightly, IX will be better.
if you are planning to mod over 10Gs, VIII is recommended.

Do a compression test and make sure the car runs ok before you buy it.

20k for 05 with 38k miles on doesn't seem bad at all.

As far as VIII or IX,

If you plan to upgrade turbo get an VIII.

If you plan to stick with stock frame turbo then get a IX.

thats the link for the sale, the guy got it for a trade said he was going to sell it to a dealer for 27K, this guy has no idea what hes talking about, he didn't know the car was AWD and turbod =) the price says 24K but he said he'll sell it for 20K to me =) which i thought was a good price, front bumper has a few scrapes and dings, rear spoiler clearcoat is gone but i can get replaced for free, and he's making sure the engine has new warranty parts..Think i should buy? I really did want the MR edition though.

Your description of the guy makes me think he's a wholesaler, i.e. he bought the car to flip it. Those guys have a few tricks they use to hide damage and/or problems. In this case or any time you're dealing with someone with short-time ownership of a car for sale, you wanna have it thoroughly checked out. I don't know about your state, buy here in Cal., the law provides for you to have it inspected by a 3rd party.

Yeah, a IX would be newer, have Mivec, and the last of the line. A classic waiting to happen.
