Got my evo

Hey everyone. My name is Reggie. I just purchased an 04 Evo VIII with full exhaust, injen intake/piping, and tein s-tech springs. The previous owner must've traded the car in with AEM computer in the car as well cause The dealer had it on the passenger seat. Should I put it in or should I have the stock ecu flashed? Thanks.

Congrats on the evo and a free standalone! lol I'd keep it to the side for later on if you plan on building it. But right now, it's pretty much useless to run on a stock car.

Those mods - flash over AEM. If you never plan on going to a bigger turbo - its worth money.

Tein S-Techs bad...

Just a heads up...too low, too soft...

Your car won't pass emissions with the AEM, but it can't hurt to keep it and maybe sell it later for other parts or use it down the road. The tuners have gotten so good with tuning the stock ECU that you'd need some serious power levels or uber aggressive cams to need to smooth things out with an AEM EMS.

Ha - silly emissions. Not all states have them.

AEM FTW. if you could run the aem and get the car properly tuned it has alot more potential than on stock ecu.

There is no point in running AEM when his stock ECU is perfectly capable of whatever he wants to do right now. If it's not broke, don't fix it...

Thanks for the advice guys. I've been reading about my options as far as turbos and I'm very interested in the fp red. I think I'm leaning towards a stg 3 buschur head as well. I think that will warrant an AEM correct?

Nope. You can still run stock ecu with fp red. A friend of mine is running a 35r on stock ecu still with a maf translator.

I already have the AEM though. Will I see any gains over the stock ecu with it on an fp red setup?

If the AEM is not installed or tuned then there is no purpose in installing it. The stock ecu can handle up to 500 hp I believe. You can tune a lot better with the AEM and possibly see more gains but it's really not needed.

Dude, don't listen to them. If you ALREADY have it, install it and use it with the fpred. It's NOT GOING TO HURT YOU. All these people are just caught up on the "stock ecu this..stock ecu that" because there are a few people making great power with it.

You have it already, just use it.

Coming from a guy that blew his up... Just because you have it doesn't mean you HAVE to use it. I have a maf translator and cop set up that I could easily put on right now with no problems but there's no need for it. Go ahead and put on a BR double-pumper with 1600cc injectors for pump gas while your at it...

1. My car has Vpro.
2. My engine was built by someone not so good and went through oil too fast and spun a bearing. Look around for Sharkbites old posts.(Same builder)
3. I was trying to be nice and help make gains, there is only 1 person I would trust with the stock ecu for all this "awesome" power. Other than that, most people gain an easy +15whp on cars with bigger turbos from switching to AEM. The most expensive part of the AEM is buying the unit itself which most people cannot afford.
4. Look at 99% of the Buschur Cars, do you see what EMS system they run? Maybe 1 PR guys run that, but no one in the States is close to touching anything like the PR guys are. Plain and simple.

When you make 700+ hp, **** breaks time to time. It's part of the game. Oh, and BTW, I have a Double-Pumper and 1200's

I said him not you. With bigger set-ups and more power, yes it would be more logical to put in the AEM but right now, even with the red and all supporting mods, it's just not needed.
