What to get?
What to get?
I am looking at a used 05 GSR with 22k miles. I am also considering a new 09 WRX. Basically the same price. Help me out. Pros and cons of the 05. New vs. used. I am thinking the WRX just because it is new and seems to ride smooth. I guess that will be a compromise between the extra performance. Thanks for input.
no comparison between performance in an evo and a wrx. not even close. just have to decide if you want a used car with minimal if any warranty left, or a new car that is, well new. used one may have been driven hard/modded. new car=more reliable. evo=more fun. just need to decide. gl with the purchase
If modding is in your future then the evo is by far the best choice, if you are just looking to get a new fun ride and leave it be, then new maybe the better choice..
Looks = evo
Performance = evo
Warranty = subi
If you are going that route, why not look at the Ralli Art, at least it mirrors the evo 10 to some degree's.

From what I seen around my area Subaru dealers are giving people even more of a hard time with the whole modded car and warranty thing. If i had to choose the evo would be my choice. Out of the box performance the evo wins hands down

You all do realize he said the '09 WRX right? The one that is .1 sec 0-60 slower than the STi? Sure it is going to perform in hardcore situations much worse than the Evo or STi (road courses, etc) and is going to be less friendly to mod. But if you're not too concerned with modding or with being "teh fastur" at the track, the WRX is what I would choose.
Course, that is assuming it is much more comfortible to daily drive than the Evo, and I haven't had a chance to drive an '09 WRX yet so I can't judge too much more than off paper.

Good info. I have test driven the 09 WRX also. It is quiet and pretty soft. This will be my daily driver. I am in Northern Ohio. A lot of snow. If that makes a difference. The WRX is nice. Just trying to decide to get the best bang for the buck without headaches. I can't see myself dumping in a bunch of money for mods though. Of course, everyone probably says that at first!
Remember that the evo is harsh and has a edgy ride. Not to mention road noise is almost double of my old 02 wrx. If what you want is soft and comfortable then the wrx is a much better option.
At this point it sounds like it comes down to personal pref, drive them both, see what you like best for the way you will normally be using it. The Evo (for me, at least) was a wonderful car, and a fun experience. Super fast and easy to drive on track (and on those spirited drives up canyons, etc) but it was a HUGE PITA to DD as I neared the end of owning (which, granted, was after at least 2 years). I got tired of driving it A to B and back for normal everyday crap and it was a pain on long trips because of the noise and lack of comfort.
I started my quest for a new car with the G35 (which had then just released the new model not long before), shortly after that I found out that the slower twin of my dream car could be had for about the same price, couldn't find one that I loved, nor could I sell the Evo privately, so I managed to test drive a ton of things and get appraised a ton of places over the course of six months. Finally found a place to give me 18.5 for the Evo on trade (compared to everywhere elses' 16) and who had a perfect condition C4 on the lot for only 37k (less than most of the new luxury/sports sedans I was looking at) and I couldn't resist.
Anyway, point of that story is that I'm much much happier. I have a car that is still fast (though not as fast), still handles pretty damn good, gets about the same gas mileage, has plenty of room (for me), still looks great, but now is much much more comfortable to daily drive. To and from school and work and home and other errands can be driven like I'm in a luxury car, and when needed I can push the gas a bit more and turn off the PSM and have a sports car. IMO that's what the WRX would be like, to a slightly lesser degree and that's the point of this giant story I decided to write in your thread

If I were to chose between a IX and a 09 WRX, I say IX.
Between a XIII and a WRX, I'd have a harder time deciding. In the end I might still get the XIII just because it's a special car. But I'd stretch for the IX.

Good story. Point well taken.
If I get into IX territory in price, may as well just get the X.
