Noob from Louisiana
HI guys,
Just wanted to drop a line saying how much i like this forum and how excited i am to be a part of the EVOlution.
About me -
Currently 26 years old living in Shreveport, LA on Barksdale AFB. I am an Air Force pilot flying the B-52 for the last 3 years - almost 50 years old and they can still break stuff and kill people better than anything else. I am married with 2 kids.
My cars -
I started out my driving experience in a 1982 Nissan/Datsun (not a misspell) Sentra that was henceforth the Jesusmobile - (you had to pray everyday for it to get you where you were going) - After that it was a quick succession of a 85 Honda Accord - 97 Mazda Mx-6 and a 98 Nissan 200SX SE-R (my first real tune job), i now drive a 03 Chevy cavalier as my daily commuter - bummer i know read about wife/kids above and you might understand
My tuning/racing experience -
My brother, who is 23 and currently working for Honda as a developmental automobile designer/engineer, and I have been working on cars/motorcycles for about 6-7 years just as a hobby mostly, our first car we worked on was a Civic SI hatchback, then an RX-7, then a 240SX and most recently he has a Miata, we both were part of the SCCA for about 2 years and raced about every other month. I'm not as much of a gearhead as he is but i know my way around an intake manifold and a turbo pretty well.
What I'm looking for -
Ever since 3 years ago watching some guy in an EVO VI tear it up across the racetrack we were at i have been watching for something that i could find myself in and loving every minute of it ... the new EVO X is definitely that. However, since my wife will also drive this car i wanted something that could be used by her and something she could enjoy and since she's not a big fan of manuals I'm really looking at the MR. So my first question of many to come is how do you tell the difference from an MR to a GSR on the outside? Thanks guys and i'm looking forward to getting one of these great cars soon
Jake

Since your in Bossier come across the bridge on Kings HWY to Youree. Take a rt and go down to Bert Kounes Dr. Check out the cars in person. Theres a dealer on Bert Kounes. Oh stop by Copelands and get ya a steak. Best in town, better than Outback!
Well as far as I know the exterior differences between the Evo X GSR and Evo X MR are very limited. The most noticeable difference would be the stronger/lighter forged BBS wheels on the MR. Other than the obvious badging, I believe most of the other differences will be under the skin and on the interior.
The biggest difference would have to be the DSG paddle shift tranny in the MR. Great for the manual averse driver. The benefit of the DSG is you can save a few fractions of a second on the track as well. The disadvantages are cost/complexity/weight and limited ability to withstand added power reliably.
If you plan to use the Evo as a stock or close to stock runabout/daily driver then you will be fine, but if (like all of us here) you catch the mod bug and start chasing power and handling limits the tranny will quickly become a major limitation.
Other than that the MR also adds upgraded suspension with Eibach springs and Bilstein struts, Xenon (HID) headlights, Leather and suede Recaro instead of cloth, remote keyless entry and starting system (i think).
The MR also has Steering wheel-mounted audio controls and Bluetooth hands-free cellular phone interface system with voice recognition that is either optional or not available on the GSR I'm not sure.
I also believe there is more sound deadener in the MR and the car is supposed to be a bit plusher in terms of ride and feel. The GSR is definately the more focused of the group, while the MR leans a bit more towards sport/luxury.
I think there is also an Evo X MR Premium that adds a fancy Rockford Fosgate sound system with sub in the trunk and 30Gb in dash storage for MP3s and whatnot.
The Evo X in any variant is far more plush and gadget laden than the much more focused hardcore and 300lbs lighter Evo 9 or 8. Although it masks some of this deficiency with a much more advanced torque vectoring AWD system, drivers of 8's or 9's might think the X is a bit soft and heavy kinda moving away a bit from the hardcoreness previous Evos are normally known for. That said, the X would defn be the more comfortable and usable daily driver especially is a wifey is involved!
