Intake question

Ok. I'll bite. Why do people upgrade the intakes on these cars right away? It doesn't look too restrictive to me and already is a cold air system with the intake tube pointing towards the road. I tried intakes before and also just drop in K&N filters and honestly preferred the drop in.

Any real hp gains from these?

You're absolutely right about the intake. It's relatively unrestricted for a factory piece. We usually just suggest a drop-in as you won't need to be re-tuned. That being said, you will make more power with an intake. You should just be prepared to be tuned for it. We suggest the Perrin unit.
Best,

It's one of the first things people buy usually because they are generally inexpensive and do provide some sort of real world gain in most cases.

On the stock intake=restrictive theory, all you have to do is put a vacuum gauge behind the stock filter and compare it to vacuum readings behind an open element filter and you will see why the stock setup is, what I would call, adequate, but certainly not ideal. The comments of "restrictive" or "not a restriction" break down when measured mechanically.

When people say the stock intake system is not a restriction, what they should say is, the stock intake system does the job but could be improved.
