OK, as some of you have seen, I am new and am looking for an evo right now. I went to a dealer yesterday to look at one. It is a black 05 evo 8. It has 47k on it. The bottom dollar price he gave me yesterday was 18,900. I am going to work on that a bit more if I decide to consider it. It has: hks turbo timer, hks filter, cheap *** xs power manifold, not for sure of the whole exhaust, but it did have a Magnaflow muffler. It also had stewart warner boost, oil temp and oil pressure gauges. Those were the only mods, I believe. Now, when I test drove it, the first thing I noticed is the service engine soon light is on. He said its cause there is no cat. I can imagine that is true and have read on some of the fixes for that. I told him I am gonna want a prinout of that though. The only other problem I noticed was the idle was kinda jacked up. I pressed the clutch in at one point to come to a stop and the idle stuck at like 2k as it was coming down to idle. Then as we were getting out and walking back into the building, it was running on the timer and the idle shot up all of a sudden and then the timer shut off. I would appreciate it very much for any insight on the deal and possibly the causes of the two issues i noticed.

Sounds like the car definitely needs a tune. Honestly, I'd skip on a car that was in need of a tune since who knows how longs its been driven around in non-ideal running condition. Also, it is illegal for a dealership to sell sell a vehicle without a catalytic converter in place so you may be able to haggle the price lower (if you decide to get it) due to that since it will obviously need a few hundred in parts for you to make it street legal again

As for the exhaust, I'm betting either Magnaflow brand or old-style Buschur.

 

The car seemed to drive ok. It felt just like mu buddy's evo that I drove a few weeks ago. I guess your right about the no cat deal. I could try and get em down some more. I think i am going to tell them they HAVE to fix the idle problem before I buy it. they got all the tools in and scanners in there that I dont have. It would be much easier for them.

I would love to have an mr. I just dont want to go over 18k cause thats where my loan is sitting at 300 a month and I am comfortable with that price.

did you notice if it had the HKS EIDS in it? my idle rises like that and holds up at 1500 for a few seconds before dropping to normal 900... car sounds fine to me... haggle em down and use that saved cash for a tune :P

 

I am embarrassed to say, but, what is the hks eids? I remember popping the hood and seeing the hks filter for sure, and there might be something else to it, I cant remember though. I found an rs yesterday also. It has power windows and locks too! I might check it out, it only has 36k on it and I know I could get it for 18k out the door.

yes doesn't the car need to pass inspection for a licensed dealer to sell it?

 

Is the mileage on the motor 75k or the body 75k? What is the mielage on the motor?
