How to get a title.

I finally found my evo, but it turns out he is going to have to pay off the current lien and I'm going to have to wait for the title. I'm curious if this is relatively safe. He say's he's going to pay off the lien in the next day or two and will give me proof that it's been paid off, then we'll do a bill of sale and he'll hand me the keys and I'll hand him the ca$h, and he'll send me the title when he gets it. Any ideas?

Thanks again,

Talk to the bank or whoever has the lien on the title and ask them about the title!!!

i would be cautious about giving him your money before he gives you the title, because the car is still in his name. He could be planning to move out of state as soon as he pays off the lien, or something of that sort.

Get the bill of sale notorized because it will be much more valid if you need to go to court. Personally I would tell him to take out a loan and pay his liens, then you can buy the car.

As for the title, it should not take more than a few days for the bank to mail the title to him.

i have sold two cars this way with a lien on it. if the seller doesnt throw any red flags, he will pay it off and send you the title no problem. also you need to work it out with his bank so its understood. as evremonde said, the bill of sale must be FULLY notorized with both parties present.

id be cautious about stuff like this but talk to his bank, or tell him to get a loan to pay off his debt.

Tell him to get a personal loan from the bank to clear the note on the car. have him get the title and lien release and then sell you the car. I wouldn't fork over any dough on a car unless the owner had taken care of the lien release on it. Times are getting tough and people are gettting desparate. I wouldn't risk it.

Thanks guys,

After reading all these I talked to him, he's going to pay off the loan and we are going to wait for the title. Talked to the company holding the lien and it looks like it will take about a week.

Looks like I'm about to get a GG IX
