Clunking..bad axle? wheel bearing? HELP!

i noticed this for the first time about a week ago. i also noticed it happens after a lengthy trip, so im guessing it has to do with heat. i get a clunking noise at low speeds, and it gets worse when the wheel is turned, but at higher speeds...pretty much anything over 10mph i get nothing at all...not sure what this could be. also what are my chances of getting this covered under warranty.

Make sure wheels are torques down. I just did oil change and drove to work on wheels that I forgot to torque... Sounds like what you are describing. I couldn't figure it out until I got to work and remembered that I put my torque wrench away after putting the transfer case bolts back on.

Edit:
Wheel bearing would make a screeching sound when you turn so it's not that.

Oh didn't read it that well. Yeah if it were lugs it would be all the time, but worth a check. I really don't know then. You due for a tranny/transfer case fluid change (30K/30months)? Might be the axles, so take it in and hope for the best to see if they'll cover it.

check the two bolts that bolt the strut to the hub, those can cause clunking if not properly torqued to 125 ft, lbs.

I know what your talking about I get the same noise. I hear it the most when I pull into a parking spot.. I'm yet to figure it out. I have a feeling it may be the ball joints or the bushings might be shot. My father thinks it maybe the u-joint. Anybody have any ideas? I'm going to check it out ina few weeks when I replace my awesome oem wheel studs..

There are a ton of post about this noise on the brake susp forum. I had the same problem but I fixed it I think??? Take your wheels of and clean your spring perches (rocks and debris), grease all bushing with lithium grease, check your strut mounts, loose bolts of course, motormounts.

I would have to say to check your ball joints. Basically to check them remove your front wheels and get a flash light and look behind the rotor at the bottom. At the end of the control arm there will be what looks like a black sack (nothing bad intended) with a rod sticking out of it. That sack is filled with grease and if it ruptures the grease will come out and over time when your turning at low speeds it'll sound like a clunk noise, and will get worse as time goes by.
