Typical problems one should be aware of before purchasing

Hi,

I currently have an 04 wrx that i bought in june and have had running a total of 8 weeks probably since then. The guys i bought it from didnt do anything correctly when they modded it and it ended up costing me A BUNCH. I had to fix their improper installs, then i blew 2nd, rebuilt the tranny, spun a rod, rebuilt the motor and well basically im fed up with it and cant afford to repair anything else. I was looking into evo's and was wondering if there was anything in particular that tends to malfunction on these cars. I know for subaru it was definately the gears in the wrx (they werent worth a sh*t). I just have a couple questions:

-what typically, if anything, tends to go bad on these cars first when modifying? (i.e. tranny, blown motor, transfer case?)
-At what power level should i expect to upgrade internals?
-What would you recommend i specifially check out on these cars if i were to go look at one before buying it?

I just really want a reliable car that i can drive and beat on and not have to worry about something breaking every time i get on it. thanks.

Im some what of a noob myself, but I do know the clutch is one area of concern. I just bought my used Evo from a guy in Raleigh. He had already replaced the stock clutch with an ACT clutch. And I've heard about transfer case issues, but maybe someone else could expand on that.

if you keep it stock and dont launch it too much you should be ok. Once you start modding it you have to start building it safer. Transfer case is one of the weak parts just dont launch the hell out of it.
