honest opinions

firts of all hello everyone i know this sounds like a real noob question but im just looking for peoples opinions/experiences. iv been extremly interested in evos for a little over a year now and i finally have the cash thanks to an 8000 dollar tax credit for buying a home in 2009. i love the body style of both the evo IX and the X and i would be happy with either car im sure but i cant seem to decide which car would be best for me i have the money for either car and the car will be my DD and im not looking to go extreme i just want it to be fun and a Fu*king rush so in your opinion which car should i get iv heard nothing but great things about the IX but what transmission the five speed or the six if i got a X i would not get the MR because i like shifting with a clutch so if you have the time put in your two cents about your car and that would greatly help aid my decision thanks in advance guys and i hope to be an evo owner here soon

I own an X and love it. Very very fun to drive and handles like a dream. One thing I would suggest if you get an X, GET A TUNE it makes more of a difference than you could imagine. The car is holding up very well so far.

I think you will be happier with the X if it is going to be your DD becuase it has a nice interior and is a more of a comfortable ride.

First of all, you will never get the perfect answer for you. I love my IX and similar to what justa4 states, I don't like the X because it doesn't feel as raw. The X does have a more upscale interior but the IX isn't horrible (it isn't a friggin' Cobalt!). You will have to drive both and decide for yourself.

The IX obviously has a deeper well for aftermarket, but the X will get there. Also, my IX is my DD and I am glad I have the 6-speed. If you do a decent amount of driving on the freeway then the 6-speed is what you probably want. If you plan to drive it hard (drag strip/autox) then you might want to think about the 5-speed, or an eventual rebuild.

Whatever your choice, don't look back and have fun!

i had that same choice last week end at the car dealership, either get a new X or buy a ix mr( 6 speed) i went with the ix for a few reasons, first it looks and feels more aggressive than the X and it cost less. Also i think the x is a great car but it lost some of that vulgurness the evo ix and evo VIII had. it looks way too much like the lancer (in my opinion, please dont start yellin at me X owners) but there is only 1 way for u to decide, go drive both and choose your favorite,

i am a IX owner, and would never trade it for an X.... just leave it at that....
however, that being said, since you asked for a truthful unbiased opinion (if one is possible coming from a IX owner), i will say that IMO, for a first time Evo owner, and one coming from a totally different world (Isuzu Trooper), an X would be a better choice. its a safer, better equipped car, and is easier to live with (in many ways), especially if this is your DD.

oh and then there is another aspect to consider. since you can only get a used IX at this point, chances of u finding a clean, non-abused IX, are slim to none... while u can go and get a brand new X (whose prices have dropped drastically in the last few months).

other than that, u'll hear a thousand opinions...

i choose the ix after asking the same question to myself. Reason? I like the body more! Performance wise they are pretty much the same. AND a ix will be cheaper since its older...

I had an VIII before I got my X. I have to say the ride and comforts are so much better in the x.

Agreed - the front is bidness but the tail feels too high-assed. The tail lights at that angle feel wrong - should be more similar to the 2nd gen IS, which seemed to get the tail right.

*edit - I didn't think the performance on the X was quite there. I thought they were a few hundred pounds up. Of course they do have AYC or whatever, which I have read is quite ****, so maybe overall they are close enough? Of course, the aftermarket is deeper on the IX still, and the boundaries are better known.
