all depends on how you treat the car, and service the car. Keep up on things like tranny fluid changes and dont beat the hell outta the thing and it will take good care of you.

If driven and maintained poorly, EVO's will indeed go bad. The car is stout, but the lubricants and transmission are poorly inclined to abuse. Miss-shifts, full on racing with 45min or more races, and/or poor clutch discipline have been known to kill the six speed. The five speed is nearly bulletproof, but hard to live with on the freeway due to high RPM.

The problem with EVO's is the same problem with Corvettes. It's a high performance car, but plenty of people who buy them want to drive the crap out of them without maintaining them like a high performance car.

I'll say the most impressive one yet is my friend's 03 Evo. It's over 100K miles and still on stock clutch! The car is still immaculate. Of course I don't think he is a "healthy" person.

the whole tranny usually falls off the evo at about 68k-69k miles when driving and least expect it.

be careful!

your friend is an idiot, and if he kills ANY transmission in 70k miles he needs to have his license pulled.

my 06 EVO IX MR has 125k miles on it and my transmission is fine. the entire car is fine. i beat on it on the street, drag strip, autocross, and road course daily and it runs as strong now as the day i bought it.
