Questions Before Buying

So where I live, the dealer is running a sick special to move inventory. 7k off msrp on all 08 evos. I talked them under that as well, and am in a position to buy an evo X for $25,500. I am very tempted, and seriously considering it. After looking on autotrader, the bulk of these cars, even used examples, are selling for more than this.
The problem: An 06 IX is available at another dealer about an hour away with only 22k miles for 22k! I used to have an 06 stage 2 sti, and my roommate for over a year drives a VIII MR so I have become pretty familiar with the car. I like VIIIs and IXs a lot. There are tons of parts available, they are lighter, and the 4g has withstood the test of time.

I cannot decide if the value I am getting on a brand new X outweighs the other reasons I have for considering a slightly used IX. Right now, I am still leaning towards the X since I will be the original owner. Plus, they seem to respond great to just an exhaust and a tune . Then again, so IXs hahaha.

I also feel the same way! I will be looking for a new evo in a few months and I can not decide which to get, ix or x. I love the ix for the look, raw power, ect. But i like the fact that no one where I live has a x and the power gains from a few mods.

What worries me about the x is the alum. block. Im just not sure how it will hold up to high HP like the iron block 4g63. Plus it worries me about the trans. issues the x have been having?? Anyone know if the evo x has broken 450HP yet??

Im not sure what to do, I guess I always find myself going back to the ix so thats prob. what I will get, unless someone can convince me the x is trully better!!

I drove the X a few weeks ago and I will say it fe els more planted and more like a rwd car in compar ison to the VIII MR that Ive driven several times。 I wouldnt worry just b/c the block is aluminum。 I know cast Iron by itself is stronger, but tons and tons of race motors with tons and tons of powe r are aluminum blocks。 Plus, the semi closed deck design and forged pistons make for a stout motor in the X。 As far as the tranny goes, I have heard the reinforced 5speed is actually stronger than t he previous VIII and IX trannys。I am confident tha t it will take quite a bit of horsepower。 The aft ermarket just needs time。 Remember, the 4g63 had a bout 18 years under its belt when it peaked in the IX。 Like I said, I am leaning towards the X bc who knows how the IX was driven for 22k miles。

I feel going with the IX will be a better idea for me. If you want an actual race-like car get the IX, every review I have read about the EVO X says its a watered down verson geared more towards different age groups to boost sales (more towards the 40 year old mid-life crisis person who cant afford the corvette). When I think of an EVO I think of the VIII and IX which are a true import streetable race cars.

lol wut? Have you driven a X before or did you just read a few magazine articles? It just has a little less power stock for stock compared to the IX, but its nothing a simple tune wont fix. It will help to read these forums and see just how great the X is w/ just a tune and how easy it is to make power. Stop flaming the X when you have no idea what youre talking about.

22K for a car thats 22K miles, and 25.5K for a brand new car...no brainer for me...esp both cars are Evos and you should never buy a used Evo unless you have no choice.

Since driving the X I have leaned towards a lot. The styling still has to grow on me. Sometimes I really like certain angels, and other times I don't. But, that's not the car's point. They're not beauty queens. They go like hell, and that's what I love about them. Right now, if my current car sells this week, I am picking up a X. You just can't beat a brand new car marked 8k off!

Well Im sure if you read my post again, no where in there do I ever flame the X, so who doesnt know what they're talking about?

Also I have read the fourms on here, read multiple reviews and articles, watched many videos and comparisons, and talked to people who currently own the X and all have stated the same thing somewhere in their review, that the X is geared more towards the everyday, average American and is not as raw as the IX. The X is more for the person who wants to drive the car daily, but still take it to the track on the weekends. The IX is more of car built for one thing with no comforts added. Im not saying one is better, just saying depends on what you really want the car for. Also there are more differences with the X than just a little less power... but Im sure you know that

I come from a VIII background, so I do plan of driving the X before I make a decsion on a IX or X. Either way both cars are impressive for what they are....

So don't assume that Im flaming the X just becasue Im restating what I have read in multiple articles... and dont become a TOOL evo owner like some people do when they get an evo, or respond to something just to increase your post count

myevo8urcar, I am going to have to agree with you, the IX and the 8 do seem like they are geared towards the raw fun, after owning an IX as a daily there are no luxuries whatsoever. THE BEST THING ABOUT THE EVO and I MEAN ALL EVO"S 1-10, The way they drive!!!!!!!!!! the X does have more in it as far as a daily comforts would go so i agree, just depends on what you like. I have trouble deciding on this to, I was going to get an Ix myself again but the X is making it a hard decision. Dont rush into anything though, there are great deals out there for used evos.

you didnt flame the X? Do you want to reread your post? that entire comment is a slight to the X. "The X is watered down. Its more geared to 40 year olds in a midlife crisis that cant afford a Corvette"...if thats not flaming X then I better go back to school and relearn english.

I on the other hand am not a tool and actually see the cars for what they are. The X handles better and has slightly less power than a IX stock for stock. The X also has a comfortable interior, I dont know why people love to turn this into a negative for the X. Turning it around and saying true sport cars dont needs nice interiors etc etc look at vipers, corvette, m3, m6, amgs, lambos, ferraris etcetcetc they ar pretty damn "raw" powerful cars but I dont see them skimping on interior. I bought a 30K car and I expect a 30K interior just like if i had bought a 200K ferrari it bettter well damn come with a nice interior...dont try to spin this into some kind of plus for Viiis and IXs and mistake raw for lack of comfort or looks.

I have nothing against IX and VIII, in fact I fell in love with the VIII in 2003 but couldnt afford itat the time, and I had a hell of a hard time deciding between a IX and a X but the Evo has evolved into the X and it is absolutely a step in the right direction.

O and trying to up my post count????hahahaha I've been a member since 2003 and i have less than 200 posts. Yea I really care about my post count.

Go ahead give me some reason why the IX, VIII > X...and dont reuse that BS reason that its less "RAW" because the interior is nicer in the X.

Sold that and bought a M6 LS1 Z-28 (4th or 5th one...)

Did bolt-on's and cam... 396whp 12.50's @114 on all season radials but my kids couldn't see out of the back seat!
