finding the right evo

I'm looking at buying an evo in a couple of months. Just sold my 96 trans am but still have an old beater to drive so I'm not in any hurry. Was looking at some 05 evo 8s but notice some nice priced 03 evos. Does anyone have opinions about which one is better? Or are they the same car? I've been looking at my old motortrend mags seem to be overall about the same. Any commits or advice from real evo owners would really help me out

05's have the ACD which is good, 03's don't. The IX has Mivec which and I believe a different turbo. Really it depends on what you're going to do and what you're looking for.

Personally I would go for a IX as well. Since you've got time on your side do some research. There is lots of good info on here.

Ditto, unless money is tight, I would just save up and wait a bit longer till you find the perfect IX, or at least get an '05. I would not get an '03 unless you really wanted to save money.

That's really what i'm looking for is cheapest with low miles. An evo x would be great but to much money. I haven't found a cheap IX yet my price range is around 20k and below. But is there any big difference between a 03 evo and a 05 evo

I would go with an 03-04 if you are going to mod it and use the money you would save to invest in some good mods.

Acd is total garbage and makes almost no diff at all so don't let that be a feature that you are looking for because you pay a lot for it and it does almost nothing!!

I'd either go with a 03 evo so theres mod money to spare or if you get your hands on a 9 its a little newer got mivec so on

If I was to go with a 03 what kinda mods would i have to get to run mid 12s ? I don't know can u do the same thing with either cars. My first performance car was an lt1 trans am. I always regretted not getting an ls1 trans am because of more horsepower and better mods available

Go search dragtimes.com and see who runs what with which mods for what year car. Any year Evo VIII or IX will run mid twelves relatively easily. Odds are most of the ones you find will be perfectly capable of doing that as they sit.

I'd stop posting and start searching for a bit.

Mid 12's is so easy in an evo with less than 1k in mods and someone who knows how to drive.

Hell my car ran mid 12's by accident with out even a tune on it so that should give you an idea of what to expect.
