No, because it comes down to a matter of opinion. Its a great car no doubt, and I love the hell out of mine, but it can't do a lot of things, can't haul a lot of stuff in the trunk, the damn back seats don't flip forward and you can't put anything through the center arm rest in the back, which costs you a lot of utility (that you'll eventually figure out later in life if you haven't yet).
and I can't really tow my other car with the evo, so no, not the best all-around. (but you won't find a really fun car that is also a really good 'all around' car).

i say the fact that it performs the way it does and still has room for passengers in the back puts it above the vette as best all around. U can race it sunday and take the kids to school on mon. And on top of that throw snow tires on it and drive year round. Cant really do the same with the vette.
this thread is super dumb, there is no "best".if you want this to at least have a point, throw out a few cars to compare rather then EVERY car ever.I can say this, yeah you know, you could buy an evo,or iyou can buy a corrado vr6 for 2500 twin turbo and build the engine and susoension etc...and for 15,000 you would destroy most of the cara out there.(p.s you can say these statements about ANY car)
Yeah it did.. ^ ^
The EVO is arguably the best all around car ever, especially when you examine the aspects of it that the OP references. There are faster cars, and more practical cars, and cars that get better gas mileage, but if you want something that does it all, the EVO is hard to beat..
I actually think this is a great thread. There are i'm sure a lot of people considering the evo as a potential car that may have kids or needs four doors and a trunk. I had a bmw m3 before the evo. It was a great car and performer. However it lacked the practicality of the evo. The evo has better braking(with better pads)and out handled the m3. My brother has an audi s4 and as good as it is, the evo has more room in the interior has better acceleration(probably cause its lighter)and is a lot more fun. There are very few oem cars in the 30-40k new price range which can do what the evo does. I can only think of the evo, sti, s4(used), possibly bmw 1998 bmw m3 4 door. The vette in my opinion does not count. Its not an all year round car and has no back seat. just my 2 cents.
For price Evo is great car. AWD, good break, turbo charged, 4 door, big trunk, easy to mod, etc. For under 15k u can get used evo 8 or around 20k for evo 9. Dont think you can find better car with that price.
I would go for s4, 335i, m3, vette but they are 10k more than evo.
So answer is Yes

To answer op's other question. You have to pay about $10,000 more to get anything besides an evo/sti with this type of performance and practicality.
If you don't need back doors there is the 135i, and you can get it convertible, but the lack of an LSD really hurts it for track use.
