or do the ones for the IX fit the VIII?

They sell them for the VIII. They just don't call them JDM VIII rear because the JDM VIII rear is a totally different (and hot in it's own right).

If you've spent any time searching the forum you would see PLENTY of VIIIs (like Buschur's, for example) with JDM IX rears.

 

Other caveat is that the EVo VIII BBY color isn't offered in the JDM IX rear because it was replaced by EB (most awesomest color, LOL) so if you have a BBY you will need to get it painted (kind of a wast IMO since you are partially paying so much because it comes prepainted.
