Evo-Good everyday ride for a big guy?

Hi everyone,

I'm new here. Took my daughter to drive a Lancer ES sport-I'm starting her right, teaching her to drive a stick-and realized that Mitsu is now importing Evos. (Yes, I googled and know now they've been doing it for a few years. My bad.) So natch I had to test drive one. Oh. My. God. I'd been planning to trade my BMW in on an M3 or M5; now I want this. But I have a quick question to any big guy Evo owners: I'm 6'1" 260, and those Recaros were tight on my legs. Good through heavy cornering, but I'm worried it would be annoying on my bi-monthly Dallas to Houston drives. Can the Recaros be adjusted? Are they annoying for big guys? Thoughts?

Thanks!

Chris Feola

I am not as heavy as you 215lbs but my height is right there. I am extremely comfortable in my recaros, I hate every other seat I sit in unless it has really nice support. The ride is what is uncomfortable not the seats.

I would test drive the new M3. It is out of my price range for a car, but I am sure that it is also fun to drive, with more luxury.

If you like the evo and the seats get uncomfortable, you could always get a new drivers seat in your own size. It is still cheaper than the M3 or M5.

They do have brackets for the stock evo that lower the seat for those that are much taller. I know of quite a few people that have done this.. Overall the seats are nice and comfy.

The m3 also has pretty tight seats, not like the evos but there deff not nice to drive in.
If you like the evo maby just drop in a diff seat, not really smart to not buy a car because of something so silly, also another member on here sells lowering brackets for the seats that drop it like an inch.

EDIT: damn theres tons of ppl on here, you type something and some one just beat you to it by like 20 seconds

Yeah, good point the m5 is a REALLY nice car. I haven't had the oppertunity to drive one but sitting in one is really nice. Also there going for around 40k$ here with under 10k miles.

Thanks! Yeah, it has that sports car ride, but I tend to like that. My X5 is sprung pretty stiff; my dad hates it. Definitely gonna see if I can put a few miles on an Evo before springing for it.

I'm gonna test drive the new M3, the M5, the Audi S5 and a couple of Porshes-that's my list at the moment, anyway. But they are OMG expensive...and I'm reasonably sure the Evo can keep up with most and take some. Stock.

I was saying exactly the same thing to my daughter this evening: I can load up a GSR, put $5k into changing out the seats and anything else I want...and still be $25k under an M3. Seriously.

Yeah, if I'm gonna do this I have to get into that Evo mind set. This isn't a conversation you have with BMW drivers-nobody mods anything....

I'm looking at those a bit-one of my friends is really big on the certified pre-owned car bit. Problem is, you're paying $40k for a used car, and every visit to BMW service is known as "That'll be several thousand dollars, please." And it is HARD to find non dealer mechanics who can do the work right-the tolerances are pretty tight.

I have a friend who is a musician in the Philadelphia orchestra (not a mechanic). He says the reason he loves his M3 is that BMW designs them so that it is easy to work on them. He does all his own work on his car. He also put aftermarket suspension and brakes on the car.

I'm 5'11" and was roughly 225lbs when I first drove my X. The seats were annoying and uncomfortable at first, but after the first few hundred miles I got used to them. If you don't want to get used to them, there's always aftermarket seats.
