Post Just doing some home work

I'm in the works of looking for a new car. Really deciding between an STI or an Evo. I currently have a built and boosted 01 Integra and an 87 RX7 I just bought some goodies for to put a 2JZ in.

I'm currently at Camp ArifJahn, Kuwait where I do convoys in and out of Iraq. Wont be here much longer and when I get back I would like to get myself a nice clean DD with 4 doors. Like I said I'm looking at the evo or the STI. So I'm here doing a little homework. As it sits now I'm pretty set on the Evo. Although, I haven't done any trolling around STI boards yet so... we'll see

When you get back from Kuwait, pay the dealership a visit and test drive each one. You'll find your answer afterwards.

Agreed. Different strokes for different folks. Test drive both.

Thanks guys, yea I plan on making a final decision after test drive. There are a lot of other things that factor in also that I can't get from a test drive. I also like to know as much as possible about the vehicle BEFORE purchasing. Which is what brings me here.

re:

i'm assuming ur planning to do mods and car work yourself -> my .02 is the 4g63 is a hell of a lot easier to work on, and when things go wrong, the evo is a lot easier to fix and the 4g63, to do diagnosis work on. On the WRX, everything is placed in an impossible to get to location (thanks to the boxer design). That said, both cars produce good power in slightly different ways. you will get a good idea from test driving both of these.

normally, i'd tell you you can't go wrong with either, but since you're on an evom forum - i'd say EVO all the way, at the rallies we go to, subarus are a dime a dozen, whereas evos tend to stand out in the crowd -

ive had both and currently have a evo and love every minute of it. the sti is a better dd because of the extra creature comforts, but it is a pita to work on. the sti will also NEVER make the power that the 4g is capable of. evo ftw

Yea, I'll def. be doing the work myself. I'm a mechanic by trait for the Air Force and do a lot of work in my garage as far as side work goes. Both my other cars I did the work on myself also. I plan to DD and race auto x. Although, the interior having a little less feature isn't a big deal for me as I'm not using to having all that anyways. So either way its going to be a big upgrade. The STI engine bay really turns me off. However, the burble of an STI with a good exhaust really turns me on, lol.

At this point in time without driving either one its Evo all the way. We'll see because my mind might change when I drive the car. It has to fit like a glove or a shoe. If the evo just doesn't feel right I'll have to take a better look at the STI.

Yea Man I hear ya, I like both the STI and Evo, can't really decide which one I want, I can tell you one thing, putting a rear strut tower bar in a subie is a PITA to say the least was helping a buddy of mine with one today.

For me, the stiffer chassis, cast iron block, better layout of the engine and the ability to accept larger mods with less hassle and larger stock turbo of the Evo, trump the STI in every way.

As far as exhaust burble goes, I've never really been turned on by a semi stationary exhaust note. The way an exhaust note should be measured (and reveled in) IMO is at WOT. Youtube Chris's Evo 8.

Just wait until you drive an Evo with exhaust + an o2 Dump...holy crap!!!!!!!

Just my .02 I came from an 04 WRX with a Blitz Nurspec full TBE that I DD'ed for 3 years. It sounded great at first but after a couple years I was tired of all the loudness. I really enjoy turning on my Evo 9 and listening to a much quieter hum. Good luck man.

I would defiantly test drive both, different people prefer different cars.

We specialize in Evo parts, but if you get a subaru and need anything feel free to PM us or call.
