6spd swap into evo ix gsr

I´m planning to import an US evo 9 gsr model (5 spd trans)
I like the sunroof (sorry guys i´m so picky with that and my wife like it too), so i wanna know if i only need to get the 6 spd trans from an evo ix mr to make that swap??
I can import the gearbox from japan (i live in peru and there is more easy to get JDM than US parts

another question is if the evo 8 gsr (jdm version 6 spd trans) is the same from the US evo 8 - 9 MR

My friend have a JDM evo 8 gsr it came with the 6 spd trans and sunroof that can be an option with the evo 9 but changing the side of the steerign wheel (left side) i think it is not safe.

thanks

WHY CHANGE! keep it a five speed if you ever plan on making good power as many people switch to the 5 from the 6 speed.

the 6 spd sucks, it breaks too easy. It is interchangeable, you just need the shifter, and cables. But why make the switch, welcome to the forum, read about the 6 spd.

The 5 speed tranny is stronger.

correct me if i am wrong but i heard today from a buddy with the 6 that it is the same size case but they had to make the synchros skinnier to accomodate the extra gear.

From what I hear the 6 speed has stronger 1/2, the same 3, and weaker 4/5 gears. I am not sure what exactly it is or if this is really true.

I also hear that the cases are the same size but they had to fit the extra gear so there is issues with heating. If this is true, then my guess is that there is less room for heat dissipation and fluids.

It depends on what you want to do with the car as to what you should do. If you are going to race it often, go with 5-speed.

What??? Who does that? it's usually the other way around dude. if you really need a sunroof get a IX SSL package... but the best evo ever made is the evo IX SE fosho sunroof = gay... hahaha just kidding

jaja felices fiestas =P

Ok i understand, 5 spd trans is the best, 6 spd is more prone to rupture =).

I´m gonna have the car for daily driver and sometimes i do long trips and drag or autocross

Now i have 1 more questions about 5 spd trans:

1) which it is the top speed on this trans?? my friend have an Evo 5, his trans is very short but in 5th gear he is 90-100 mph @ 7000 rpm, so thats another reason i wanna get a 6 spd trans more top speed for long trips

If i keep the 5 spd trans and get a 6 spd trans which stuff would i need to change for that swap??

thanks

I'd imagine the 5 speeds in the Evo IX could take you to 160MPH or higher without redlining it.

I have an EVO IX SE with the 5 SPD and I've easily hit 130 in 5th at about 5000 RPM, so I wouldn't worry about that..

EVO 5 is not really in the same league as an EVO 9 unless it's been modified.

I've taken mine to about 165 with more to go, It would probably top out at around 180 You really won't want to go that fast once you've been there. yeah the 5 spd is good

I'm running out of 4th gear (8k+) at the drag strip and I'm almost at 130MPH in my Shep w/Evo 8 4th. In my 6-SPD 4th gear wouldn't take me past 110.

Bottom line is that the top speed on the REGULAR 5 Speed is over 170MPH if you're revving it right. 6Speed isn't much different. If you go for 4.11 final drive or HKS gearing you're talking about 200+MPH (in 5th).

Keep your 5 Speed and get it built.
