time to switch it up!

new guy with a 06 srt8 charger...looking to get an evo 8. this 12 mpg crap is killing me when i drive 45 min to work a day, and these things are HORRIBLE in snow. Im in Ames, IA.

Ive always liked the EVOs...but they are SOOOO hard to come by in Iowa. We tend to only get base model stuff here. I live in a town of 50k people and ive NEVER even seen an evo, and Im the only srt8 charger ive seen, so I figured to sign up here and see if I can find some.

go for it i would recommend a nine though they make more power with basic bolt on's. as for mpg evo's do well as long as you stay out of boost, but they are not Honda Insights so dont expect that. as for the snow i had a blast when i was in maryland with mine! i would recommend a set of winter tires because i was on some yokohama advans and the minute the tread packed with snow it was like driving on slicks with awd still fun none the less. BUY ONE 8 OR A 9 YOU WONT BE LET DOWN!

I drove 6 hrs to pick up my new Evo in Milwaukee. You can definitely find one in Chicago. The 9's are way cheaper to mod than the X's. I'm gonna go broke. lol.

Check CL and the for sale section here. I got lucky and found 2 when a deer totaled my other car. They are rare around here yes, but there are some around but you're going to probably have to drive a few hours to see some.

do some research on this forum there is a wealth of knowledge in refrence to the differences between the evo 8 and 9. as for sinking thousands into an evo to go fast that is not the case! a simple drop in filter, boost controller, cat back and a GOOD TUNE (spend the money on the tune!) will make you very happy in comparison to the beast you drive currently.

For example I am running a full exhaust, intake, mild tune, electronic boost controller and hard pipe which consists of:
=Invidia O2 housing $300 roughly (I dont recommend this for you right now)
=Invidia downpipe $300 roughly (I do recommend a dp of your choice do some research alot of good ones out there)
=Test pipe/cat delete $150 roughly (I highly recommend this make sure you get one with a bung that pulls your rear O2 sensor out of the exhaust stream, but local laws may get you on this one)
=HKS HiPower Cat Back $350 used (cat back is a must on a turbo car)
=Injen full hard pipe kit and intake around $350 (this is a bit of a pain due to needing a tune because of the intake, but I do recomend a lower intercooler pipe and a drop in filter which together you can pick up for around $200)
=Perrin EBC $100(you can have your tuner set the boost for you when you get a tune I recommend this one so you cant just reach over and turn up the boost)
=Tune depends on how, where, and who tunes your car there are various methods, I had a road tune done that ran me about $300

All this adds up to smoking SRT8's from a stand still, so if you just go with a drop in, cat back, boost controller, lower intercooler pipe, and a good tune, you have spent about $1500 (depending on brand of part) see not thousands in parts!

this has been posted many times before, but here you go the differences between the 8 and 9. one last thing try to find an evo that has few mods and is still on the stock clutch like mine that means someone has treated it right or not raced it very much.

^^ Sounds like a smart guy.

The great things about Evos is that you can get exactly what you want from them. Fast, pretty, reliable, inexpensive...lots of trade-off options are there. I went with fast & pretty but it is expensive. You could go with fast & inexpensive if you aren't going to be entering car shows...
