Tell me what you think of the mods on this MR...
It's a stage 2 Exedy clutch.
He does not know what brand intercooler (1st owner installed) but it's the biggest you can put in without cutting.
Same thing with the springs and retainers (1st owner).
I was sent pics in a word doc (don't know how to pull them to my computer... married to the word doc). Car looks very clean and well maintained. Very clean engine bay, although there is a bunch of dried foam all around where the heat shield meets the block. I have seen this before though on other modified engines...
He currently has no cat on it. In Cali I think I would want to get a Perrin cat and have it installed and tuned. If I were to do this, would I have trouble passing smog? What do you say California guys?
On another note... what are your opinions on the MR as far as stock shifter vs short shifter? Is there a short shifter available for the 6 speed? This guy has the stock shifter with a bigger titanium knob.

So you have seen this car in person? How does it sound? Does it idle very smooth or rough? The cat issue is something I'm not too sure about, California has very strict rules. That's why I would never live there, I'm not just talking cars either. I would see if you could drive the car first. And as for the shifter I'd leave it as is.
So, short shifter is not that much better huh? I drove an Sti with a short throw shifter but not an Evo yet.
Edit: I forgot you were looking at an MR.. Now I'm not too sure about short shifters on an MR, but the only company that produces one for the MR is Works. They claim to shorten the throw by 35%. No one over here has gotten it done, so no experience on them here.
Which part of Cali do you live in? I live in Northern California and I'm pretty paranoid with the cops as well. But I have a testpipe with a cat heatshield and it looks stock. I got mine from RRE and its a resonated test pipe. Best way to go in my opinion, stealthy and doesn't sacrafice performance, although it does stink pretty bad. Friends of mine and my girlfriend say the smell is pretty strong.
If you are really set on buying a cat, I say you get the Mil.Spec 100 cell cat.. Best flowing cat hands down. A tuner here in NorCal did a back to back comparison with the Mil.Spec 100 cell cat and testpipe and the car only lost 5 WHP and 11 WTQ switching from the testpipe to the cat. The only thing is your also going to have to wield a cat heatshield around it because it doesn't look stock.. And Cali cops will ding you for anything that doesn't look stock.

Short throw doesn't make TOO much of a difference.. But you can definitely feel the difference.

Yeah, I DO NOT want to get hassled by cops...

Don't want to lose HP, but rather do that then get caught and maybe be made an example of. One local tuner told me that it can be 50 / 50... some guys get a fixit ticket while others are black marked forever and are forced to return everything to stock!
What do you do for passing smog? That's my other worry here in Cali. Oh, and I'm in Nor Cal too...
Thanks for the info on the Mil.Spec cat...

Being pulled over doesn't automatically mean the cop is going to make you pop your hood, it really depends on the cop and your luck. I've heard both sides of the story where some people never get their hoods popped and others where they get popped everytime they get pulled over. Like I said, the best thing to do is to go stock looking because you don't know what kind of cop is going to pull you over.
