Coming From a 09 WRX....
So.....
1. How strong are the Evo X motor??? Can they get to the 350-400 whp without worrying if the motor will blow???
Yes - with a retune and a mbc you can get to this, get a TBE and this is a lot easier - the block is 600hp capable.
2. How are there transmissions in the 350-400 whp range??? Are they strong???
Yes - can handle that much power and more. Driving style + maintenance schedule + HP # determines how long it will last. Drive it like a race car and your going to wear synchros faster, drive it like a drag car your going to put a lot more stress on the internals subjecting yourself to a higher percentage of failure - breaking gears, minimize tranny/motor movement with poly mounts and you help minimize this. Drive it like 99% of other evo owners - normal driving + some spirited your stock clutch could last 60G + miles
3. What is some basic Info I need to know about the Evo X while modding???
You need to know that this is a performance car, not a wrx. It requires more maintenance than a normal car, again dependent on how you drive. Get the basic bolt ons - TBE, Bigger Intercooler, boost controller and a re-tune and you'll reach your goal.

Thanks pfunk!!! I assume the car will be a little more expensive to maintain because of the Brembo's and what not...
I have done oil changes for my WRX so far about $50 each time. Oil change where the topped my fluids etc was $90 but beside that so far nothing else and I am at 12,000 miles.
Is that about the same for the Evo or not really? What are the cost like for the Evo???

I hart you! I couldn't resist teasing you. It is a great example of Evo X reliablity since there aren't too many other people going crazy out there.Hell yeah brotha!
Haha, my post count is such a joke. Sure they aren't all "sick car bro" but they aren't all knowledgable contributions. Half of em are spent arguing... Lets start a new one on here! I could use another 500 posts

Cams on the 4g63 (older Evos) was a piece of cake, especially if you did it the ghetto way... Dunno about the 4b11, but it definitely isn't as hard as the boxer motor.
The Evo is probably pretty close to the costs of maintaining a WRX... Tires, brakes, gas are all gonna cost you more. As will insurance. But unless you've been using regular oil instead of synthetic in the WRX the changes of that and other fluids should be about the same. It is a little over 60 IIRC when I do an oil change at the dealer with the STi with synthetic. It was 75 for my Evo at a local shop, but that's because they had to fill an extra 3 qts of oil for my AccuSump system.
Maintenance of a production stock car like the Evo isn't that much different as any other car in its price range... it all depends on how you drive it. Since I drive like granny and prefer to use engine breaking as the main method of slowing the car down, I'm expecting it wouldn't cost any more than the Civic SI ep3 I had a couple years back.

Insurance will actually be like $20 cheaper a month. Points fell off rates change etc...
Stock 225 WRX tires are like $160 each while the Evo stock tires are about $315
What's gas like with the Evo??? My WRX is like 16 gallon 91 octance and I average about 20 mpg...

You don't want to spend 315 on buying new Evo stock tires..... Same goes for the WRX... but just being 245 instead of 225 will cost a bit more.
My STi gets about 18-22 average depending on my driving, the VIII was in that same range. But, for the first while expect to get a lot less, you'll be driving hard
