i bought an 03 evo 8 about a month ago with 49k miles on it and extended warranty (powertrain) 2years/24k miles
alright so my tranny has been acting up, 5th gear locking up every now and then, getting a little hard to put it into reverse from a stop, but the worst was a clunking sounds when shifting from 1st-4th gear every time i press the clutch (soft and hard it still happens) and when i shift into the gear
I took it to the dealership and they said it would cost $1500 just to drop the tranny and find out whats wrong with it (the warranty will cover it)
But now here is my biggest problem the mechanic there told me that someone else with an evo had a similiar problem but his warranty was void due to using a tranny fluid or some other fluid that wasn't issued by Mitsu and so his warranty was voided and he ended up dropping about 7k to repair it.
From me just looking at the car the last owner didnt even rotate the tires on it. It has me thinking that the last owner cut corners on this car.
I can take it back to dealership and try get cash back an look for another evo or be credit towards a car they have
(honda dealership)
I would have given the dealership the okay to drop the tranny and look at it but gambling $1500 (not even counting the parts and shop fees) does not sit well with me
Sorry if there is anything mispelled or grammar errors its been a long day i have a million things running in my head about this right now

If there is something wrong with it make the dealership fix it under your warranty. If the tranny has the worng fluid in it the dealership shouldn't have sold it to you like that. Their fault, they need to fix it.
Are you taking it to the same dealership you bought it from?

If they gave you a defective vehicle and you are within 30 days, return that bish.
Get a better Evo. And if they give you qualms about it, get a lawyer fast. This isn't no $500.00 body kit we're talking about here, its a $20k+ car.

Most dealerships replace all the fluids when they put a used car out on the lot for sale. They could have used the wrong fluid. Most of the time the Tcase is the one to get fu**ed when the wrong fluid is used. The tranny is more robust then the Tcase.
Both Shep and Buschur are in OH, call your warranty company and see if you can take it to any shop. Tell them you want to take it to a tranny shop and take it to Shep. www.Sheptrans.com best tranny's in the business!
Fu** the dealership, they will do nothing but screw you. Another thing you can do is make a BBB complaint and that in most cases will get the problem taken care of.
To anyone who reads this... Extended warranties are worthless. It just a way to make the dealership more money. Hope this helps!

well, unless it is atf in your trans, all you have to be sure of if it is 75-90w. it does NOT have to be mitsu fluid, just the recommmended gl4 75-90w. if it has gear oil that is not purple or some other gayass color, the warrantee would be intact. period. what extended did you get? universal underwriters is actually pretty good. when i was a service advisor, i called a claim on an altenator on a 94 saturn sl2 in 2004. to my suprise, they covered it NO problem. alot of it is how the service advisor talks to the warrantee company. they can fight for you or kill your claim right on the spot. all they have to say is "modded". some service advisors are douches. i speak from experience. good luck.
Wow you are the fourth owner of this car with only 49k on it? Not to sound like an *** but wow I would have looked for another. If you never changed the fluid since you bought it, you should have no problem with the warranty. Good luck and let us know what happens.
