Hello everyone, great site btw. Okay here is the down low, I am in the market for a Evo IX and have heard 2 different things when it comes to the transmission. First off i heard that the transmission in the IX (5 speed) is weak, and tends to go out alot then i heard the same thing about about the 6 speed. I dont know which is right. Thought i would come ask the pros! I currently drive a 07 tiburon and and hate it so much, its so slow. I recently test drove a evo ix 5 speed and fell in love! I am also considering the 2010 Genesis Coupe 2.0T Track model, so at this point i am all ears and hope to learn some new things.
The five is preferred I think mostly because with the tight turning racing the evo usually does on short tracks the extra gear shift is a disadvantage.
The other point is the 6 speed has a noted issues with overheating 4th gear if you are too hard on it racing.
For daily drivers and those who don't race or mod much above 400hp the 6 speed can be better for freeway cruising. In normal use there's little to no danger breaking the 6. The 6 speed has a bad reputation because of racers breaking them after severely beating 4th.

Go drive the Genesis coupe 2.0T Track model, and you will probably fall asleep behind the wheel. It looks impressive on paper, and probably would be a great car after you get a tune, catback, intercooler, etc.
A bone stock Evolution is far more exciting than a Genesis coupe. So I would say get yourself a nice 5-speed Evo IX and call it a day.

Jorge your right i have tested the gen coupe and i thought it was fast but that was after driving my 4cyc tiburon, but last week i drove the evo and its totally a hella of a ride.. Like when i got on it up to 3rd gear the acceleration was unbelievable! Its had me stuck to the seat for sure! The one i test drove that i was gonna get was a 06 IX with FMIC, cams, and tbe! But it had some mechanical defects so it was a no go. Still in the market!
It depends on what ur wanting the evo for.... If ur gonna build it over 400 hp then get the 5 speed, if ur gonnna stay under that power level u will be ok with the 6 speed just depends on what your goal is in the evo!!!

Any path you choose whether it be an VIII or IX you will surely be happy, I know I am.
As far as most hp for dd is considered you need to figure what that is for you. Everybody has a different opinion about what a dd is considered and how much hp is acceptable for a dd.
