About to buy an '06 MR... a few questions first...
Thanks for the advice guys... Im looking at some others too. I think I will pass unless I can get the price down a bunch. Theres plenty out there, but many are modded or are just far away.
it doesn't sound too bad. i think 21k is a good deal, it's hard to find a stock evo.
My clutch engaged high since i got it used, and i put 20k miles since. i don't think it's necessarily an indicator the clutch is about to go.
good luck

On the test drive test the clutch, put it in 5th going up a hill. Talk him down in price and only make the deal if he gives you at least 1k or 2k off and they fix all the problems it has. Where are you buying the car from? Is it a mitsu dealership? I would double check to make sure the warranty is still good on it. A second hand dealership could just see its within the mileage and timeframe and say it will pass when it wont due to some aftermarket something or other that a tech spotted in the past. I would pass on it. Sorry. Plenty of fish in the sea...
Pass here as well. I would look for classifield, there is many MR for sale and good price as well. Just find a honest seller and has a many posts or feedbacks. Btw, shipping isn't that big of deal, once you look search you will find a good price shipping company. Just keep looking.

Go figure no wonder why you got screwed your 17? did you go with a parent. Let me guess you looked online found the cheapest EVO and proceed to go buy it, without any intentions in looking it over or taking it to a mechanic or body shop?
The clutch grabbing high probably isn't an issue; mine grabbed really high until it was adjusted. The abs light is a little weird. The vibration sounds like it's normal too; lifters make alot of noise and stuff..
Nope, Actually i passed up 3 different evo's for this one. I went with my dad he was against me getting a Japanese car lol, but that's a whole other story (American Muscle Vs Import down at the track
) But for some reason he looked at the front tires and the one had less tread then the other. He then went and told them look i know the car was in a accident, but somehow they convinced him out of him beliveing it. But anyway they threw new tires in and i got to pick a alignment shop and got it aligned. But now i don't really regret it because the car drives fine so i'm happy. Sorry for like taking your thread over haha
. It was like extra super hard to tell it was hit.
everyone makes mistake and fix and another mistake...that's life. Search is good, but search will never gives you a real lesson untill you really try or happen.
Buying a used Evo is risky enough. Buying a used Evo with a series of problems that point to abuse is truly a bad idea, especially if one's pockets aren't very deep. OTOH, if the money is there, buy a good car to begin with. Trying to save a few bucks on a used Evo amounts to a false economy.
For example, here's a very good used Evo, but it isn't inexpensive for a reason:

This is the only car I'd buy from the classifieds.

Heres an update:
I showed the guy that looked at the car this post I made with all of your responses. How does this sound based on his reply?
"The car’s definitely been driven hard. But it appears to have been kept up pretty well. The wheels aren’t bent so it doesn’t look like it has been “curbed” or anything. The wheels just look like they might have rubbed on something at some point. The clutch will most definitely have to be replaced and that is only under factory warranty for 12k. The clunk from under the vehicle was from the carrier bearing, the set up is kinda lame. It’s a bearing with rubber around it, on the outside of the rubber is a steel housing. The weight of the driveshaft has compressed the rubber and made for a good deal of play in that assembly. The right rear wheel bearing is humming at highway speeds and the play could most definitely cause a vibration. As for the ABS light flashing randomly….. There was a guy that asked if it was raining, it was cool and dry. Sometimes ECM’s have to “prove out” (as some people say). Basically what I mean by this is when the vehicle first starts up it’s not unheard of that an MIL will stay on for a few seconds while the ECM does a self check. That was not the case with this car, the light just started flashing randomly while maintaining 60-65mph on the highway. The fact that there is no codes makes me wonder. I checked for TSBs and there isn’t any. Worst case is that it will need an ABS Control Module which should still be under warranty. I would tell him to take the car to Mitsubishi to fix the ABS light, wheel bearing, and carrier bearing. Other than that you’ve got a nice car. A clutch is a wearable item and you should expect to have to replace, especially on a performance vehicle that is driven harder.
I hope that this helped.
