Hell for that price I wouldn't mind even having to drop a newly built engine in it... still only at 16-18k for the car with a newly built engine, can't complain on that. I can't believe our cars are going that cheap now, I would beware of salvaged titles though when you start getting really cheap. I will never sell my car, just keep rebuilding it until they stop making parts for it

Well it's either a higher mileage EVO, or a lower mileage s2000...

I like the EVO more but with less miles an s2000 is more intriguing.

Im the second owner of my '03. I purchased it with 46k and it was fantastic! I started modding it a little later on and got it tuned around 100k but neglect on my part I hit fuel cut one too many times and blow the rings out. Had I not tinkered with it or atleast had proper fuel delivery it would have lasted a lifetime.

That's a crude stereotype. I know plenty of DSMs that have been well taken care of that have made it well past 200K. I know of one that has been raced plenty on the 1/4 track and road course, 16g then 20g turbo, and besides getting a cometic HG has never had to be broken open. It just depends on how you treat them. DSMs are cheaper now and people get them without having the money to take care of them properly. That's where the stereotype comes in.

Same with an Evo.

115k on my stock block, with 25+ track days (road racing). This thing is SOLID and runs better than it ever has. I've been running KevinD tunes for 75k miles with very few issues. I had a feeze plug pop out of my water pump last winter, but other than that, just routine maintenance (for a tacked car).

ok i have had mine since 32k. it now has 165k on the clock. its a 03. Mine is the stock motor, stock tc, rear diff and transmission. My car has been to the drag strip numerous times and is not driven easy daily. i know for a fact i have over 60 launches on it and my average cruising speed on the highway is 80. Besides timing belt service twice, brakes once, clutch at 85k and tires numerous times. My car has all the basic bolt ons, cams and alky injection. My car still runs strong on the orginal turbo at 24-25psi daily!

Yea I am in the same boat with the OP. My friend is pushing me to get the s2k but i've loved the Evo for a long time. Just gotta wait around til the right one comes by but I understand about the whole paranoia of the maintenance. Dont want to spend the years of saving on something that will just suck your bank account dry and leave you with headaches. Lately though I havent seen many evo's for sale in my area lol cant look at something for mistreatment/owner abuse when I can't even find it. Good luck with your hunt though

I love mine, drive it to work every day. 6-7 days a week 120+ miles a day.

Front hubs at around 120K. Tbelt(full serv every 60K). I'm still on the original clutch. I bought the car with around 64K.
