intake?
if your going to buy a intake and then dynotune it please look into the cost vs the benefit ratio.
I say this because your going to spend around 200-400 for dynotune...and just have a intake added.
Consider having more more bolt-ons or look into cams, downpipe, exhaust manfold, exhaust system....then consider doing a dynotune. This way you actually see a bigger gains in your evo.

well i was talking about the back to back data for stock air box and aftermarket intake. we all know that if we were to add an aftermarket drop in filter to the stock box in most cases we should see a small gain. i have also heard the same thing for a X which is great if true. but since the OP has a IX than that is irrelavant to him and me. i have also heard that the stock intake tube for the 8 and 9 are good to about a certain hp but again where is the data. most of the info that is out usually includes and aftermarket intake kit of some sort. i have no doubt that the stock box is good to a certain level heck i just recently added a cone filter to my car and the response improved and it sounds cool to
i think you'll see stock intake tube and aftermarket filter setups than a stock box and drop in filter making more power. only because the stock box is usually the first thing to go.
i just always hear that the stockers are good to 400 hp but where is the proof and i agree its not cost efficient to add only an intake and then tune. the best thing to do is add the intake and add whatever other power mods and then dyno tune to bring everything together. but remember an intake can cause a few changes and it must be monitored to be on the safe side if not tuned . you dont want to run the risk of going to lean on WOT.

Are you talking about not needing intake? If so i've been told (performance shops) and read in several places that the stock intake in the evo x atleast does not need to be replaced unless you abolutely need too. Need to be making more hp and tq as mention previously.. (sorry if this is not what you are talking about)

i'll do my best to try to explain. i'm not a professional tuner but i do tinker alot on my cars rom. the MAF rescaling falls into 2 catergories. rescaling to show Hz in the actual rom and rescaling the hz value. the hz value can be adjusted thru the rom by logging your maf through evoscan or mitsulogger. for example i edited my rom to show airflowHz as my maf scale value. at idle my MAF see's around 25-30hz, each car might differ depending on mods and stuff. also you would have to look at your o2 feedback and low fuel trim to properly adjust your MAF. there is an adder that the ECU applies which is 140 and there is an equation which is fairly simple listed on this thread: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ec...hout-pics.html
i think it would be better to read this thread before i confuse you more lol
the process is fairly simple but the tuner of your choice should be able to iron that out for you. but its always fun to learn and do for yourself too.
tiffsevo - the K&N is a good filter but the AMSoil and the Perrien filter are just that much better. look up the air filter shootout thread on this forum

I went from the stock paper filter to the k&n drop in and felt a slight difference in throttle responce and could hear the DV and turbo a little more. I then changed out to a Slowboy cone filter....made a much bigger difference than I thought it would. Now I'm not saying it made any certain amount of whp but it definitely felt better. I have heard the stock air box is good with a drop in so I would suggest using that for a little while until you add more parts. I added the Slowboy filter cause my buddy had one for sale really cheap.

We offer a complete intake kit for the 8/9. You can see a picture and details on our website.

The lower pipe (LP2) upgrade is a better bang for the buck though
Thanks!
