It is an MR as depicted by the "H8" by the cars VIN number that I viewed in the pictures section. If of course that is that vehicles proper VIN, which I am sure that it is.

Wait it out, search around, you'll find a better price.

It also looked like the paint on the driver side caliper is shot (I dont have the best eyes, but it looks faded, could be the picture though). This could be from normal wear and tear and climate, but could also be a sign that the car was tracked hard and the brakes were roasted so hot that they literally burned the color off...or the "evo tuner" had a heavy brake and gas foot.

The dealership has no reason to tell you the truth about who owns the car and why they cant drop the price, etc, etc. I bet if you offer them 1-2K less, they would take it. A used car dealer is only the second worst place to buy an evo from, the first being an actual mitsu dealer. I have yet to meet a mistu salesperson that knows d!ck about an evo

I suggest again that you search around for a better deal. The missing heatshield is suspect, as well as the caliper paint (IMO).

Dont buy an evo without checking the compression first...you have been warned

Good Luck

I would get a price adjustment. Tell them you want 2K off for the clutch and brake you will have to upgrade

still a little torn between the evo and sti but I am going to test drive the sti and second evo tonight.

Let me know what you guys think of those cars. I like the first evo alot because it comes fairly stock but with a built bottom end. But a little worried since it was previously modded.

What's sad is that the STI looks in better shape than all 3 Evo's.......

Are you only looking at EVO "VIII's"?....anyhow the first one looks heavily modded and almost stripped from its original "Evo Self".....like some bad plastic surgery....

The Second seems to be the most stock and close to mint (out of all the evo's)....not a bad price either....

The Fourth....well the guy dropped his price about 2 or 3 times....(gotta wonder why) and some heavy modding......which LETS REMEMBER.....the heavier the modding the higher chance of some serious problems.....modding these cars isnt like modding a Honda Civic.....there is sooo many variables.

If you asked me, which one I would choose out of these 4 cars, well it would have to be the STI.....it's just a better deal and looks to be in better shape.

BUT.....watch this video and then tell me what your leaning towards:

BUT THAT IS ONLY IF I HAD TO CHOOSE FROM THESE 4 CARS.

Haha, I was just giving you a hard time, and knew what the .... meant. Sounds like the OP made a good choice by passing on that first one. Good luck finding the perfect setup for your needs, OP!

*edit - I'd definitely lean toward the Evo. You will get more for your money. STi's are relatively hamstrung by their turbo placement and from what I hear, transmission.

i like the way you break all your words down. . i was also in that situation about getting a evo but i took my time and get it from the best dealership in town for $13,000. out the door with 100,000 warranty putting me at 180,000 miles warranty on the powertrain was $14995. the mileage is high at 80,000 but i was paying $13,000.

Ive been looking at a few cars for a new DD and ive got it narrowed down between the EVO, GTO and STI. I have driven all of them and was most impressed by the EVO. This is the one im looking at purchasing

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false

Heres some info on the car, its an 05 EVO MR with 57k. Its supposedly got a new clutch but is definately going to need a brake job because the rotors and pads are shot. I forgot to ask but i was just remembering that the 60k maintenance interval is coming up soon, which I assume includes changing the timing belt correct? If this needs to be done is this something extremely difficult to do yourself? Expensive? What do you guys think about the price? I tried to talk them down a bit but the lowest they said they would go is 20k because the car was not actually theirs. It was someone elses who was trying to sell it through the dealership. $20k is alot of money and is the maximum i wanted to spend on a new car. If I go and spend that much, I want to make sure its worth every penny. im also a bit concerned about gas mileage, do you think this thing will do ok?

Let me know what you guys think of the car and any other things to know about daily driving these cars. Thanks

am also in IL like 45 minutes away from you but i will also help you look around too.

price is about right, it is MR, i bet you can find something for less than 20 with less miles GSR. just keep. lookin, 6 spd is nice for hway - but weak when you start moding it heavy.

as far gas milage it depends how much you drive

WOW now the ken block video does the justice in convincing someone to buy and STI, which are slow, understeer like crazy, weak halfshafts, hard to tune, through an engine light after you change your intake...want more why they are not all that??? bUT they are torque ill give you that.

Back to topic, my suggestion is i would not go for any of those cars, because the ones that are heavily modified are fast already BUT if something goes wrong you don't know where to start since you did not build the car. And the one that looks decent the owner baaarely put any info on the car and 3 pics, so you know he is not dedicated to tell you the truth, sooo just keep looking and be patient.
