STI Owner thinking about changing sides
If youre looking more for a liveable atmosphere, the X will do that a lot better than an 8/9. Not that the 8/9s are harsh or unlivable, its just theyre more raw than a 10. The X's are more of a bigger boat of a car.
You have made a wise choice, every scooby owner that has ever rode in my car regrets not goin mitsu.
EVO 8 9 for the win, simply a raw *** street/track car that is just visceral.

liveable really isnt the issue. like i said, i've driven plenty of stock and lightly modded evo's. they are more raw of a car then the x im sure, but so is the STI. my only issue with the sti is there is just too much going on now. If the car was a dedicated track car. I'd probably stick with the STI. but the fact remains that i still drive it on the street 99% of the time and it is completely overkill in every way.
I love fast cars, and i would like nothing more then a highly modded car. However,
400 safe whp (my goal for a street car), in an sti involves a big turbo (30r, etc) and a built motor, clutch.
400 safe whp in an evo 9 or 10, involves bolt-ons, cams, meth injection (maybe) and a clutch.
In which case,
the evo will spool faster, it has longer gearing (5 speed vs. sti 6 speed). the STI with a bigger turbo will probably do better up top, but that is not all that important on a street car. For me, i want response. And you really just dont get that with high HP subarus.

Don't do it!
Haha, jaykay. First off, your STi is sick, never been a fan of spoiler-less cars since I've experienced first hand what difference it makes, but it definitely looks super stealth for what's done to it.
Second, I see your point of view, it's partially how I was with the Evo, just got too crazy. So definitely make the switch.
Four tips though:
1) A GG IX GSR with less than 20k is going to be hard to find, especially at a good price. Part of why I went with the STi is because every IX GSR I could find with less than 30k miles on it were nearly the same price as this car that only had 7k miles on it. Not saying it isn't possible, especially if you're willing to go the distance to pick one up, it's just harder than you might think.
2) While each car has it's weaknesses and strong points and I won't get into that because it'll just fuel arguments, the 2.5l motor with the smaller turbo does spool faster than the Evo and IMO that makes it much easier to DD.
3) If it isn't your DD, I'd stay away from the MR models period. They're more set-up for DD comfort (hence the Touring name even on said model), especially with the Xs.
4) Either way, whatever you choose to do, I promise you will be happy. Both cars are wonderful cars (and both the IX and the X are as well). Do some deeper research on your own and go see if you can test drive a few to get an idea of what you like. People can tell you their own opinions all day long, but in the end with picking a car it is (or should be) all personal preference.

Ya I hear ya dude. Thats my setup exactly, Im boltons (but on stock manifolds, o2, and throttle body) with cams and meth and the stock turbos at 30psi.

I know that the 2.5 with a smaller stock turbo will outspool the larger 16g on the evo. However, the evo's 2.0 with a twinscroll 16g vs. a 2.5 ej257 with a 30r is a whole different issue. Both cars will make close to 400whp, however the evo will do it on a much smaller turbo, and it will without a doubt spool up faster.
Yeah thats more or less exactly what i want. I'm just very picky about parts so it takes me a while to find stuff i really like.
