Evo Newbie from the Audi World. Couple???

Hi guys, just wanted to introduce myself and get a couple of ?? answered. I am a 36 year old and long time car fanatic. I've owned numerous Vw's and Audi's but I'm ready to move on to the Evo world. (my current car is an 01.5 S4 avant with about 380Whp.) I am looking to get an 05 or 06 Evo that hasn't been abused. I am looking to get a car that is still daily driveable at 500whp. Is this asking too much? I have been lurking and learning here for awhile and can't wait to jump into the realm of Evos!!! I am also wondering if you would recommend the 05 over the 06 because I've read the 6-speed is weaker? Beside here, where else could I find my dream Evo for sale. I really would like to buy an already modded car since I've spent $$$$$$$$$$$$$ modding my VW and Audis in the past, and it hurts just thinking about it! LOL Thanks so much and I look forward to being here for a long time on my newest adventure!

Here is my current Audi S4:

The 05- 06 thing doesnt matter as far as the 5 or 6 speed goes. Its the MR that has the 6 speed and the rest have the 5. I just purchased a 06 SE not to long ago and I love it. You get a little bit of the MR options w/o the 6 speed. And welcome to the forums.

I've always liked the S4 Avant. Great lookin car.

You can easily get a daily driveable and reliable car at around 400-450 whp on the stock block depending on the mods you do and what psi you run. 450 shouldn't be too hard to achive, but going a bit higher will require some more money and you will probably want to run meth. Browse the dyno section and you can see what people are doing.

The 5 speed can hold more power stock than the 6 speed, and a lot of 6 speed owners convert to the 5 anyway. I'd just look for a GSR to have fun with, unless you really want the added things the MR includes. I have seen some people with the MR 6 speed have issues with just basic bolt ons, and some are running 500whp and not having issues, so I guess it is some what a crap shoot.

I found a nice '05 GSR which was 100% stock on Ebay for $19.5k. I'd check there and cars.com, and autotrader.

Good luck!

Oh and like Foolproof said above me, the SE is a really nice car. MR extras but with the 5 speed. If I was to do it all again, I'd search for a clean '06 SE and buy that.

Well I have the best of both worlds now, a MR SE
All this weak transmission nonesense annoys me. I did my research and from what I can say is, well, it depends on your driving habits and what you plan to do?

Is this just a Street DD with ocçassional 1/4 runs?
Or a Consistent Track car/DD.

If you drive it daily and don't beat the **** out of it, the transmission won't go as all that power won't be consistently forced upon it. Now, if your going to the track every weekend and slam gears hard and hit the limiter when shifting, it will be VERY hard on the higher gears in the 6 speed.

Im shooting for high 400's low 500's on my stock block MR SE ( 6 speed) with meth. I will be running to the track every weekend to watch probably, but not participate. I will be doing a bit of road racing however, but It will be low gear no hard slamming, and consistent cooling so that it doesn't overheat.

If you do plan on doing a lot of racing with it though, get a 5 speed.

Nice B5 BTW Those wheels say SEX on that car.

Nice Audi

Nice Audi. I am relatively new to the Evo world myself. I was tuning my VTEC B16A Integra until about 8 months ago when she got stolen. I felt like a bit of a trader to all of my Honda bretheren when I test drove my Evo...then i pulled off the lot and into traffic. I love this car!!!

You should do RS6 hybrid turbos before you disregard your S4 so quickly The V6TT will make torque the Evo wish it had. 520awhp/680wtq is not unheard of.

Most companies won't do rs6 hybrids anymore, and for the price you can go straight rs6's. I had the bigger 997hybrids. The car with a good tune will walk on a 35r evo all day long, but you still have that lack of reliability. A sensor here, a sensor there. Axle here, trans there. Im coming here from there because I want a car I can beat on and rag out and not have to spend thousand's a year to maintain it.
