5 speed mr?

whats up guyss? i've searched and all i've seen is comparisons and which is stronger and swaps and what not. i always thought the mr wass only 6 speed but i've recently seen 5 speed mr and it wasnt swapped. had a friend that had an mr and it was fresh of the lot 5 speed but my father also had a mr and his was 6 speed? is there a difference between this 5 speed and the gsr 5 spd?

thanks -jay

A true MR MUST have a 6 speed. This is how they were built and there were no 5 speed MR's. People normally swap them for a 5 speed if they plan on pushing more than 500 hp. Chances are, the car at the dealership your friend picked up had an MR badge for no reason. A stock MR will come with a 6 speed, bilstein suspension, carbon fiber hand break handle, vortex generator, wickerbill, graphite bbs wheels...etc. There is no difference between the 5 speed and the 5 speed gsr because a 5 speed evo IS a GSR.

If it is a car you are looking at buying, I would avoid it. Either it was mislabeled as a MR, or someone blew the tranny and replaced it with a 5 speed. As everyone has said, a MR has to have a 6 speed.

The 6 speed MR is good for 500hp as long as you are careful with it. If you are looking to drive it hard and reach gains in the 550 to 700 range , you need a 5 speed.

imagine someone that bought MR, and trying to shift into 6... where it was swapped with 5spd.

I've seen MR's with 600whp on the stock 6spd. The fact is the 6spd is just a weaker, more easily-breakable transmission. If you're looking for no more than 450ish, I'd say go with the MR if you really want it. You'll be shifting more and you might get tired of it. The 5spd is perfect.

actually i've had 5 speeds for ever and i feel like 5 speed just put me at too high of a rpm while cruising on the highway. for you 5spd guys about what rpm are you at in last gear in the 5spd when doing 60mph? 80mph? what about 6 spd?

Although i don't think its possible to shift into reverse while the car is moving forward, it would be fun to hear about what would happen!

it would just bounce out wouldn't it?

I am interested in knowing what rpms you guys are at in 5th as well. In my dsm 70 mph is like 3500 and 80 is 4 grand. If I could get a 6 speed I would just to be able to cruise at a lower rpm.
