Daily Driver WHP Poll
How much do you get on a fillup? Honestly with a bigger turbo and the way I drive I get the same if not better mileage with mods and a proper tune than stock.
I'm at 512whp/413lb-ft running 92 + meth on my stock block, stock 6-spd, and <gasp> stock clutch. I'm at 44,000 miles and I hope the clutch continues to hold (still feels fine).

I do ensure to hit meth whenever I drive cause the worst thing you can do is not keep the pump flowing. I will likely track the car when I am running a 2.4L (hopefully later this year) and a better clutch, but for now I don't.
I bought the car brand new for $32k and I've put about $8k into it. For a ~$40k car I don't think I've made a mistake yet.
When I'm behind the wheel I'm not constantly driving hard, cutting people off, hitting triple digits. There is no point in doing this in WA state.
But the car is far from sedentary. Whenever I can hit quick corners on a back road, or I'm on an open road with little traffic, or I can keep the meth flowing, I do it. Unfortunately in the greater Seattle area you can't do that 100% of the time from when you sit down in the car to when you shut off the ignition.
Definition of sedentary: "accustomed to sit or rest a great deal or to take little exercise"

I think I might see where you're going. Personally when I have a specific question I ask it in a specific way. I'll see if I can't help you understand my perspective a bit more since you seem interested in the mindset. As I'm sure you realize, I doubt my mindset will apply to everyone.
I don't know where you've garnered that my car is being used in a sedentary manner based on the comments I've uploaded to this forum. Certainly not the initial comment that I made in this thread.
If you're basing your aforementioned notion off of previous comments of mine in other threads and are curious as to how my car got to where it is now, you would do best to search in the NW section, where I do most of my posting. In that section you will find a build thread that details how I got to where I am today. As stated, I have only spent about $8k on performance parts. More specifically I have done that over the course of almost 4 years.
How I specifically got over 400whp was due to getting close to that mark and being obsessive compulsive enough to force myself over that particular hurdle. A similar path occurred when I didn't quite hit 500whp with the FP-black.
Why I went with the black in the first place is due to the fact that it is similar to a 3582 but with closer to stock spool. My eventual goals were a 2.4L with a 35r, and the black seemed close enough to that goal that I went with it sooner than later. In my mind, it would be future-proof for my goals.
Some people lean more on the side of show mods while I have leaned more heavily on the side of go-fast mods. I also pride myself in what I've spent and the work I've done. What you won't see on my car are 18" bling wheels, canards, JDM rear, etc., though arguably some of those items can help you run faster on a track.
FWIW, I'd guess most people in the DD 400whp - 500whp range don't utilize the power properly, certainly if they don't live in CA, AZ, FL, or elsewhere that they can track all year long. I would assume map switching for maximum fuel consumption when not at the track would be the way to go. Is anyone going to do that? Highly unlikely.
To clarify any comments I made earlier, I was using exaggerated examples to illustrate my point. Had I known you were going somewhere specific with your questioning this could have likely been answered without as much drama as I may have used.
Also I was never inferring that the readers of EvoM live in the "hicks" as you put it. You referring to it as "hicks" and not "sticks" certainly lends credit to your statement of where you live. FWIW - those that reside in the sticks are usually referred to as the hicks. I actually live closer to the hicks in the sticks than the cityfolk, but I do the majority of my driving in the greater Seattle area.
There is enough exercise on my relatively safe build and tune, especially assuming that I keep my car maintained well. I suppose now that you have read that I tend to be obsessive compulsive you could assume that I can get paranoid. With a 2.4L ER built motor and a clutch that is more capable to handle my mods I will feel less paranoid.
Will I continue to chase an ever higher pie in the sky number? Probably not as I don't want to be chasing random drivetrain issues.
*edit - I will likely top 600whp before I'm done, though.

^that's a horrible example! What's the point in shifting at high rpm around town, from one traffic light to another?
In any event, we are going pretty far OT but you are more than welcome to PM me.
