Thinking about a Lancer

Long story short, need a 4dr car because 2dr will not cut it for much longer

I currently own a 2003 Tiburon V6 - 6spd, it's been a great car to me, a blast to drive and to date I haven't have any issues with it but it's not a good family car. So my wife and I started looking at replacing it and after looking at numerous brands/models we recently test drove a 2010 Lancer GTS. My wife loves it so I'm screwed lol.

I've been searching all over the net/forums looking for recall problems, common problems etc. I haven't turned up anything major that would stop me from buying the car but I'm weary of some starting issues? mainly associated with the 08's it seems. Can anyone tell me if this is still an issue or has it been fixed? I read something to the effect that it was a relay issue(?).

Also I'm having trouble deciding between the CVT automatic w/paddle shifts or a 5 speed manual. I'm leaning toward the auto, I've been driving for 15+ years now and I think I'm getting tired of driving stick, but this paddle shift leaves room to play (from what I can see so far).

So are these CVT auto's any good or are they garbage? MPG wise they look great but I've seen some people saying they're "twitchy" when they're cold. On the flip side, the reviews I've read all say the 5 speed & clutch are rock solid and a lot of fun to drive.

Price wise this Lancer wins hands down. We can get a brand new fully loaded GTS w/leather, sunroof and stereo along with a 5yr warranty for what our budget allows. I do realize asking if I should buy a Lancer on a Mitsubishi forum 9 out 10 ten people will say yes so that's not really my general question.

  • I'm wondering if there are any other common issues that I may have missed?
  • Are the CVT auto's reliable or problematic?
  • How are the 2.4L engines? (Long term wise)
  • Why can I not order a new Ralliant in Canada?

Thanks in advance
