Hey, new here, looking to buy an Evo 9.
Hey everyone, a friend of mine/Evo owner showed me this site one day since I am currently looking to buy an Evo. I'm really looking at an Evo 9 but an Evo 8 will due, but it has to be a MR.
I've read thread's on here about what to look for when I go to buy one, but are there any little tidbits that I should know so I get the best Evo I can find. Like how to pick out fake MR's and such. Price isn't really an issue but I do want as close to stock as I can get, so I can do my own upgrade's.
Enough about that, a little about me, name is Steve Hischar, 20's year's old, born in Pennsylvania, I live down in Panama City, Florida stationed at Tyndall AFB employed by the military, I also do some photography whenever I get the chance. I plan on getting into automobile photography eventually, once I get my Evo it will be a lot easier to tune my skills since the Evo seems to be a photogenic car.
If anyone else wants to know something, don't be afraid to ask.

You probably know that the IX MR is the most common IX. It also has the 6-speed that has proven to be unreliable in (sustained) road racing applications. As such, I'm not entirely sure why one would take the time to "fake" a MR, seeing how it only differs from other Evos on the basis of its transmission and its Bilstein suspension that many original owners sold for inferior Asian coilovers.
If the car has a 6-speed, its a MR. IIRC, I've seen a single instance of a 5-speed owner installing a 6-speed in his car. OTOH, more than a few MRs went though a conversion to a 5-speed. If the car did have a 5-speed conversion, its shift console would have been replaced, as well. Same with a 6-speed conversion, so the only way you could tell is by the VIN. Good luck.
