K&N typhoon air intake for 2003 Evo

I installed a K&N typhoon air intake on my 2003 Lancer Evo and it runs worse now than it did with stock intake. I had to block off some of the filter to get it to run half way decent. Does anybody know if the K&N typhoon intake works well with the evo's ? Any input would be appreciated. Sorry it looks like I posted this question twice. I am new to this forum.

It's known to be the worst intake and ebay filters are behind that. Take it off and install a quality one. Plus, most intakes require a tune to run at an optimum.

What brand do you consider to be quality? One that I can install and performance will be improved without a tune.

I also installed a Greddy EVO2 catback but do not notice much change in sound. Does installing a test pipe improve sound and/or performance?

STAY AWAY FROM IT. I learned the hard way. With the Typhoon I had persistent stalling issues. Even after being tuned by one of the best tuners on the West coast, the problem did not go away (every stop sign, backing up...etc.). Apparently there is a flap in the induction tube that's messing up flow and the sensor gets really confused.... I eneded up using the stock induction tube and the K&N cone filter that came with the kit and the problem was solved. It's surprising one of the biggest filter companies around could make that kind of a mistake.

You have a lot of reading to do before you start modding even more. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...faqs-forum-61/

i heard the stock box is best. until heavy modding say in the 400 Hp.. I would just get a aftermarket filter for the stock box and whammo! x]

I have the K&N Typhoon on my Evo also. I havent had any issues with it stalling from the intake. The only issue I have had with stalling is when the car is cold is doesnt like to go anywhere until it has a little heat in the engine. This started happening after I switched to E85. My tuner said he can adjust that out but I havent had him do it yet. I wonder about performance with the K&N now though after reading this thread!! I made 378awhp on a IX turbo, stock cams, Tanabe turboback, and E85. There may be a K&N Typhoon up for sale now....

K&N is good for stock turbo, will run out of resolution on bigger setups.
